🚨 Last week, we brought experts and stakeholders together to discuss the role of #electrification in cutting European industrial emissions, strengthening #energysecurity and boosting #competitiveness.     Marco Giuli of Agora Industry and Jan Rosenow of the Regulatory Assistance Project (RAP) presented recent study findings on the potential for direct electrification – and thus emission reductions – in #industry.   They also outlined key measures to incentivise the uptake of electrification technologies. These include:     🤝 establishing an electrification alliance would help match electrification technology suppliers and industrial end-users.  🔥 industrial electrification technologies in the EU’s clean tech funding would help scale up promising solutions for higher industrial temperatures.   💡 providing state aid guidelines for operating expenses (opex) support and reforming taxes, levies and tariffs would address the “spark gap” between electricity and gas costs, and make electrification more competitive.     In the panel discussion, Tom Howes (European Commission), Małgosia Rybak, EMBA (Cepi), Margareta Rončević (EASE - The European Association for Storage of Energy) and Domien Vangenechten (E3G) discussed both policy and technological aspects of furthering industrial electrification.  Key takeaways:    💡 There is a broad consensus around the role of electrification on Europe’s path to climate neutrality. Moving forward, affordability will remain a key element of success. Revising state aid and taxation regimes can be an important part of it.     🏭 For industry, hybrid solutions in the short-to-medium term and thermal storage may offer economic and strategic benefits. Infrastructure bottlenecks and rigid grid tariffs remain significant hurdles to overcome on this journey.     A big thank you goes to all participants and speakers for their contributions to this timely discussion.
