Last week Rachel Slattery and the #AgileAus team asked what I thought about the future of Agile. I said I had a view, but whether it materialises has nothing to do with Agile itself and has everything to do with us. I went on to explain that most organisations spend way too much time "doing" Agile (aka Scrum, SAFE, Kanban etc) and nowhere near enough time "thinking" or "being" agile. The result? - We're still delivering the same sh*ty projects, just in a more "Agile" way. (Spoiler alert: putting lipstick on a pig is pointless, regardless of how you deliver it). - Our teams are so busy "doing" Agile that they lose sight of what is possible. When this happens creativity and innovation die, burnout and disengagement soar and we all start questioning the value (read, point). - Ironically, Agile starts to feel as stale as Waterfall used to and everyone wonders why things still aren't being delivered. Am I right? Whether this sounds like your reality or not, if you'd like to debate where Agile is heading get yourself to #AgileAus24 in August! At a recent conference AgileMumbai.com , I had the opportunity to discuss Carbon Emission #Reduction for #Software under the #GreenSprints. The session was incredibly impactful, as it not only raised awareness but also inspired the audience to take tangible steps toward reducing their carbon footprint. One of the key takeaways was a collective #pledge made by participants: to reduce their #carbon #emissions by taking small, actionable steps, such as: - #Skipping the sending of one unnecessary #email per week (as email has a surprisingly significant environmental impact). - #Unsubscribing from one non-essential #email #subscription each quarter—a simple yet effective way to reduce data storage and server energy consumption. We also took the initiative to calculate the carbon emissions generated by the conference in #AgileMumbai, and in response, the attendees collectively agreed to plant one tree each as a means of offsetting these emissions through #carbon #sequestration. The session truly highlighted how small individual actions, when taken collectively, can contribute meaningfully to environmental sustainability.
