Following our recent update on 'Crash for Cash' scams, Ageas has identified a worrying increase in the City of Bristol. These scams involve moped riders deliberately manoeuvring their vehicles into the path of reversing vehicles, often vans, to induce an impact and then claim for damage and injuries. The incidents involving Mopeds were first reported in London in Summer 2023, but we are now seeing a change in the nature of the scam, with a 190% increase in reversing incidents in Bristol in the last 12 months. Our advice for drivers is to stay vigilant, especially when reversing. Always check your surroundings, use your mirrors, and be cautious of any suspicious behaviour. If you suspect a scam, please report it to your insurance company and the Insurance Fraud Bureau (IFB) immediately.
