Ongoing evolution of secure payment solutions continues apace, reaching many first time users.
I’m delighted to announce Mastercard’s collaboration with KaiOS Technologies, Inc. to bring affordable, secure payment solutions to millions of small and medium-sized businesses (SMEs) across emerging markets. Starting in Côte d’Ivoire and Nigeria, this collaboration will allow even the smallest businesses to accept digital payments using KaiOS-powered devices. SME’s form the backbone of African economies, providing about 80% of jobs across the continent and thus require solutions that will enhance their business growth and productivity. By integrating Mastercard’s technology into these affordable phones, we’re unlocking new opportunities for SMEs to thrive in today’s digital economy. I’m proud of our commitment to driving financial inclusion and empowering SMEs globally, helping to build a more connected and inclusive future. Today, I had the privilege to represent EBANX in a thought-provoking panel discussion on "Scaling Payments in Africa and Beyond" at the #Moonshot by TechCabal 2024 conference in Lagos, Nigeria. It was inspiring to exchange ideas with my fellow panelists, Unini Odaibo Campbell from BudPay, Tobi Otokiti from Raenest, and Tolulope Adeyinka from Mastercard, each bringing unique perspectives on innovation, financial inclusion, and regulatory navigation in the African fintech landscape. The conversation was moderated by the Financial Times' masterful Aanu Adeoye. Key takeaway: The future of digital payments in Africa is bright, but realising its full potential requires collaborative efforts to overcome infrastructure hurdles, ensure regulatory compliance, and foster financial inclusion. Thank you to TechCabal for organizing this important dialogue and to all who attended and engaged with thought-provoking questions. Let's continue working together to build a more connected and financially inclusive Africa. #AfricanFintech #DigitalPayments #FinancialInclusion #CrossBorderPayments

🌟 Fintech in Africa 🌟 Over the next 10 years, #fintech will grow exponentially within the African continent driven by multiple factors. The journey will be hard (at times) but exciting (all the time). I am also confident that the Middle East will have an important role to play (we can already see the evidence of the same). The mistake we all make about Africa is that we still don’t fully appreciate the diversity, scale and size of the continent. It’s home to over 1.4bn people and over 50 different countries. Number of challenges exist but none which can’t be overcome. Personally, I have been impressed with what we have seen emerge out of the continent and there is a lot more of the same which will come our way in the future. With that in mind, I look forward to participating at GITEX AFRICA where the #futureoffinance on the continent is a key topic of discussion. Thank you to the DWTC team for the invite. If you are planning to be in #Marrakesh between the 29th and 31st of May then drop me a DM and it will be pleasure to catch up when I am not running between roundtables, panels and 🔥side chats. Visa and Mastercard have expanded their footprint in Africa through strategic investments and partnerships. Visa and Mastercard are intensifying their involvement in Africa's booming fintech sector, marking a significant push towards digital payment innovation across the continent. Through strategic initiatives such as Visa's Africa Fintech Accelerator and Mastercard's investment in major telecom companies' mobile money businesses, these financial giants are leveraging local partnerships to adapt to the digital shift. Their efforts underscore a commitment to nurturing the fintech ecosystem, providing critical infrastructure, and fostering growth among startups. With investments totaling around $700 million, Visa and Mastercard are not just aiming to enhance their operational footprint and contribute to Africa's digital economy. This move is vital for staying relevant in a region increasingly favoring digital wallets and mobile money solutions over traditional banking services. #DigitalPayments #FintechAfrica #VisaMastercard #MobileMoney #AfricanInnovation
