Claims by natural gas producers and midstream companies, such as EQT and TC Energy, for 10-18 Bcf/d of power sector gas demand growth by 2030 appear to be overstated, especially when accounting for the growth of renewables. Many O&G operators shifted investments towards renewables like solar and wind, and the results have been questionable, to say the least. Refocusing on Oil & Gas investments is not a step back, but a recognition that O&G will remain critical for decades. While renewables have their role, the energy landscape is far more complex than we’d like to admit. You can twist perceptions, but reality won't budge. #OilandGas #EnergyTransition #RealityCheck #Renewables #EnergySecurity https://lnkd.in/dWnpAF-c

NextEra has made it plain that the economics of solar simply outperform those of natural gas. Said their CEO on their most recent earnings call: "This marks our second best origination quarter ever. These results support our belief that the bulk of the growth demand will be met by a combination of renewables and battery storage…we also are well aware of the realities of new build gas-fired generation, it’s more expensive in most states, is subject to fuel price volatility and takes considerable time to deploy given the need to get gas delivered to the generating unit and the three to four year waiting period for gas turbines." https://lnkd.in/eZQ6aecE

BP predicts global oil demand will peak in 2025, driven by the rapid growth of renewable energy sources. Despite this, BP’s CEO has shifted focus back to oil and gas, suspending offshore wind projects to boost revenues amid lower earnings. The company’s Energy Outlook indicates that while natural gas demand may decline in a net-zero scenario, it could still grow significantly under the current trajectory. https://lnkd.in/g7P3u98D
