📜 Policy and Advocacy | OCJ Annual Report 2023-24 📜 This past year was pivotal for consumer rights in Oregon, with several key public policy wins—especially in debt collection practices. We're also proud to celebrate the first anniversary of our policy internship program, which provides primarily law students with invaluable hands-on experience. We know the vital role of collaboration in effective advocacy and impact. This past year saw the culmination of our inaugural policy cohort and the launch of a new convening space for community partners to work in coalition to advance pro-consumer policies. Grateful and blessed to say that I've started my summer internship with the Canadian Centre of Housing Rights where I will be conducting in-depth legal research concerning housing rights and keeping track of relevant legislation. Alongside that, I'll be working with clients by providing them with legal information concerning their tenancy concerns. Excited to see where this summer will lead me in terms of better understanding the intersectionality of social justice issues and how I will grow in my own advocacy! 😁 #LegalResearch #CCHR #Advocacy #SocialJustice

I'm going to keep preaching this Collaboration over competition every time, no matter the profession But especially in such important, life changing, politically charged areas like #reentry, #criminaljusticereform and #socialjustice I may like tacos better from one place and burritos better from another...it doesn't mean I'm only ever going to pick one of the places to support 🌮 Sometimes in reentry I hear "only those with lived experience should be doing it" and others preach "only college trained professionals should be going inside" spoiler alert...they can both be the same people We do better making real change with more amplified, diverse voices working together And reentry is not a one size fits all concept...people may prefer to learn and work with multiple providers at the same or different time So here I am shouting out another reentry guru that is in my hometown...#linkedinconnections meet my friend Terry johnson he is just getting going on LinkedIn and can use some support (just don't go selling him services to optimize his page as I will help him with that soon) This world needs more people hyping each other 🌎 And April is Second Chance Month so it makes it even better we were able to meet yesterday on the first day of the special month So three questions for you Who do you want to hype today...tag them in a comment below Do you prefer tacos or burritos (don't make me make an official poll on this) And have you connected with Terry yet? #reentrymatters #restorativejustice #secondchance #corrections

Community service by legal professionals offers a meaningful opportunity to give back to the society. Volunteering time and skills for pro bono legal services ensures that individuals who cannot afford representation still have access to justice, promoting fairness and equity. Educating people about their legal rights is an invaluable service to society. This education not only fosters greater legal awareness but also contributes to a more just and equitable society, where people can confidently seek help when needed and stand up for their rights. Let’s come together to create a collective pool of resources that can make a real difference. We can support underprivileged students by sponsoring their education/legal education, promoting their hidden talent, mentoring aspiring law students and young professionals in smaller cities, and assisting them in securing internships or job opportunities. By doing so, we can help bridge gaps and open doors for those who might otherwise lack access to these vital opportunities, ultimately contributing to a more inclusive and equitable legal profession. Many more ways to serve the society. Suggestions invited. Parvesh KheterpalSameet GambhirLakshika JoshiAnubha AgarwalRishi K KapoorSampadaa NarrangSonal Kumar Singh, FCIArb
