Our team building looks a bit different than what you might think. This is actually a complex activity underwater. Hard to manipulate, buoyancy must be maintained and used for advantage, and the mistakes of bubbles from exhaled breaths can get trapped in the fabric, send the whole tent to the surface. #veterans #scuba #scubadiving #teambuilding #stopveteransuicide #mission43

Take a guess: what do you think this is? This showed up in the dark field ARGOS image in a demo Kaitlin Dunn gave last week – and it’s really hard to figure out what it might be. So, calling all you experts out there: Can you guess what it is? 😄 #dioptic #argos #scratchdiginspection #opticalinspection

🌊 Time for another #SeaStorySaturday, my twist on #SocialSaturday! In today's story, I'm the FTOW on an Ohio Class Submarine. We had just finished a BSP, secured maneuvering watch, and were outbound back to sea. The off-going watch section was rigging the bridge for dive. While rigging the bridge, our ETV2 comes down the ladder, harness and all, with a look of disbelief: "Uhhh the clamshell is missing." The response from everyone around? A chorus of confused disbelief: "What do you mean it's missing?!" "I mean, I went to rig the bridge for dive, but I can't because the clamshell is not actually there!" From there, it was a comical scene. People piled up and down the ladder, harnesses and all, to take a look for themselves, each a little more senior and increasingly bewildered. Chief goes up, Nav goes up, Eng goes up, even the XO goes up - each returning with the same flabbergasted expression. Yup, clamshell MIA. Turns out, after surfacing, the team rigging the bridge "noticed something was wrong but couldn't put their finger on it." An uncomfortable situation at the time, but hilarious in retrospect. I wonder what ever happened to that clamshell? What's your favorite #SeaStory? Tell me about it in the comments below! #veterans #veteranshelpingveterans #navy #submarine #rigfordive #oops

A dog on a ship? Yes, it's a thing! This is Captain Demo -- part of an experimental program that places facility dogs aboard ships while underway. He patrols the ship under the direction of a human handler to interact with Sailors and build morale. Dogs are selected and trained by a non-governmental organization, which also selects and trains the human dog handlers. Part of the experiment involves regular data collection on Sailor views of having a facility dog aboard ship, and subjective ratings of stress and mood before and after interaction with the dog. While I suspect there is still a ways to go before this might become a program of record, initial survey data indicates there are clear benefits! #USNavy #Woof

I've trained a lot of C-UAS EOC (Engagement Operations Crews) worldwide. Birds have always been something FAAD and camera operators had to be vigilant too. They often create false tracks from radars thus cluttering the operators FAAD screen, or creating an area that causes complacency. Kind of like mylar ballons. In 2021 in Iraq we had two KAS-04s hit our base because of that complacency and lack of knowledge. There was an area to the northwest ~13km away that had a lot of bird activity. You always saw "false tracks" of birds flying around. One night two tracks seemed to have originated from that area and the FAAD operator, a very sharp SPC called "Attention in the TOC". The Battle Captain and NCO believed they were birds, the young solder said he did not think so because they had a larger Decible per Square Meter (dbsm) Radar Cross Section (RCS) than a bird. The Battle Captain and NCO failed to initiate the airspace deconfliction process. They actually took a vote in the BDOC, Of 21 people only the SPC and I think one other guy thought they were real drones. A few minutes later the camera on the PTIDS picked up the first incoming UAV. To late to spin up a Coyote, they did a battle pass to the Avengers. They could not get tone, then it was passed to the LPWS Phalanx. The first drone was hit ~0020 ~700m from me, the 2nd was hit a couple minutes later ~400m from me. I believe these were the first group 3 UAV kills by the LPWS. I was standing outside the bunker at Camp Kittyhawk with our Red Team lead Bill Miller. I just left training the crew at midnight. That SPC was super sharp. He got a lot of kills while he was there. We refocused training that particular Battle Captain and NCO. Trust your operators, as long as they are trained well. A good FAAD operator is a valuable tool. One of many reasons why I have taken C-UAS very seriously for years.

5moThat is a really interesting team building exercise, Rob. It's funny simple tasks can become extremely challenging with an environmental change. Very cool!
