Safety Manager OSHA#510

The state of Florida’s new law, which now gives the state jurisdiction over counties in determining when workers should be given rest breaks when it’s hot. Please use common sense and discretion. I believe they’re going to be multiple lawsuits because they’re going to be some jobs that simply do not give workers their breaks. They need because of this new law that just took affect July 1. The state continues to meddle in business that really is not their own. I really adamantly believe that the state of Florida should have left control in determining when workers should be given. Rest breaks with County officials. So to all the safety managers I tell you please use common sense if it is hot and it’s 100° outside common sense has to come to place somewhere. Rest breaks will be needed more frequently. If your worker is injured at work due to a heat stroke or heat exhaustion, you are really setting yourself up for unneeded liabilities. Please use common sense when dealing with your workers especially the ones that work outdoors the ones that really get the job done for most companies and that is the field workers.
