I’m a writer. Copywriter by trade, but if someone asks me what I do, I say I’m a writer (or a poet if I'm feelin' saucy). So why the hell am I sharing an Instagram reel of photography? Because I also shoot film and it breaks my brain every time I capture something solid. Does that make me a photographer? That it hilariously does not. I’m a man who owns a couple cameras and tempts the gods into lining me up something fantastic to try and capture. This is a game we play, the gods and I—in poetry, with photographs, with ads, and emails. This game goes by a few names: serendipity, chance, providence, dumb luck. That, I suppose, is what it is to be any kind of creative, to have the mad willingness to go wherever luck is most likely to strike, to fly a kite to beckon it to light your system nervous. That’s the real wild hare—to go there always and often and without any hope of lightning striking, but to go anyway. If it does, folks will celebrate that bolt of greatness. Yet, I bet whoever it strikes is out there again tomorrow, new kite, new string, lookin’ to get struck again. This marketing video from #HeverCastle is giving me life 👌 The English language is evolving rapidly and I find it soooo interesting. Gen Z slang is appearing more and more frequently in campaigns that I am involved in and it is, understandably, super challenging to adapt for other markets. Do you think you could translate this? I think the best approach would be to first translate into bog-standard English and then have that transcreated with a Gen Z twist.
