Rethinking architecture through trans experience at the Venice Biennale – Teo Ala-Ruona selected as artist for the Nordic Pavilion at the Biennale Architettura 2025 🎉 The exhibition invites audiences to think about inclusivity and accessibility of the spaces we design and live in, while also exploring how this broader perspective can transform the way architecture is imagined and created. “My work addresses the sociopolitical pressures and impacts on bodies, particularly trans bodies. I am intrigued by how architecture, as an everyday environment, has influenced the ways we categorise things and each other,” says Teo Ala-Ruona. 📸 1) Teo Ala-Ruona, photo: Anni Koponen 📸 2) Nordic Countries Pavilion, photo: Åke E:son #BiennaleArchitettura2025 #ArkkitehtuuriJaDesignmuseo

Did you know that housing in Mexico is a fundamental right, enshrined in the constitution? It is therefore the responsibility of the state to ensure that every citizen has adequate and decent housing. But what exactly does “adequate” mean? Architect Tatiana Bilbao addresses this very question. She places people at the centre, integrates the social perspective into the discourse and sees the role of architecture among other things as democratising beauty. We met her and spoke to her about her work, architecture, structures in space, the symbolic dimension of light and the metropolis of Mexico City. Get to know more about her here or read the article entitled “Social Perspective” in our new magazine F_03. "If humans are imperfect beings, the architecture we make should reflect that imperfection, those details, those vestiges of irregularities that give it character and turn it into a craft." Ángel Bolaños Méndez, alumnus of the course in Architecture for Humanity, had the opportunity to interview José Selgas and Lucia Cano, founders of selgascano, architectural office based in Madrid. ✏️Read the article on the Students’ Blog: https://lnkd.in/dE7v5z_N #yac #yacademy #studentsblog

https://lnkd.in/dngVSDcQ In conversation with STIR, Berlin-based architecture firm b+ redefines Neo-Brutalism, emphasising adaptive reuse, ecological sustainability and architecture as activism. Their projects challenge conventional norms by advocating for renovation over demolition, aiming to preserve resources and reshape the built environment through responsible, sustainable design. The making of Mexico City: "As a coda, SMA’s work itself could be seen as a synecdoche of the city. It has woven through the urban form for almost 100 years as it has evolved into one of today’s archetypal mega-cities. Over that period SMA have evolved from sophisticated modernist architects to imaginative designers and developers, intimately interested in the commercial, social, cultural and religious life of the city where they are based." Article by myself and Maarit Mäkelä published in the Research in Arts and Education Journal. "This practice-led research article explores how post-humanist and eco-feminist perspectives of entanglement and relationality challenge human exceptionalism as a basis for making architecture in the process of the Alusta research pavilion. Multisensory spatial experience, material circulation and more-than-human temporalities are explored through building a temporary pavilion for multispecies encounters in an urban museum setting. Reflecting on the project, an architectural space is understood as a continuous process of becoming enacted by various human and nonhuman forces instead of as a stable object with a sole human author. Architecture is reimagined as part of the web of care sustaining all life." https://lnkd.in/dq9VY64N

It’s for 2025, yet hope to see innovative #InclusiveArchitecture well represented in 2025 in Venice. I believe “intelligent solutions” are inclusive and welcoming to all. Text in picture: #IntelliGens is the title of the 19th International Architecture Exhibition, in Venice from 10 May to 23 November 2025. President Pietrangelo Buttafuoco and Curator Carlo Ratti announced the theme of the #BiennaleArchitettura2025 today at Ca' Giustinian. The Curator declared: "The Exhibition will search for a path forward, proposing that intelligent solutions to pressing problems can take many forms. It will present a collection of design proposals and many other experiments, exploring a definition of 'intelligence' as an ability to adapt to the environment with limited resources, knowledge, or power. Objects, buildings, and urban plans will be arranged along the axis of a multiple and widespread intelligence – organized as natural, artificial, collective, and combinations of the three. While some ideas are destined to fail, others may point us toward redemption". The sections, the four methodological pillars, the common prompt addressed by the Curator to the National Participations: find out more in the news! A r t i c l e This year, ArchDaily, one of the world's leading online platforms for architecture and design, highlights the groundbreaking Kunsthaus Graz in their article, ‘Kunsthaus Graz: A Friendly Alien Among Historic Landmarks. ’ Designed by Peter Cook and Colin Fournier, this biomorphic masterpiece redefined contemporary architecture upon its debut in 2003 as part of #Graz's European Capital of Culture celebrations. For us, the Kunsthaus Graz represents a milestone in our history. Transforming its fluid, organic form into a structural reality posed extraordinary engineering challenges, pushing us to innovate and collaborate like never before. The result? A ‘Friendly Alien’ that seamlessly bridges historic #Graz with the future, proving how engineering can empower architecture to overcome boundaries. BEHIND THE FORMS X SPATIAL METAPHOR Curators | Guoqing Yi, Jiaxun Xu @jiaxunxu_ Date | 09/18 - 10/20 2023 Venue | North Gallery @northgalleryscut, Building No.27, North Campus of SCUT, 381 Wushan Road, Tianhe District, Guangzhou Organizer | School of Architecture, South China University of Technology Co-Organizer | JXY Studio Part I | SPATIAL Part II | METAPHOR The exhibition presents a variety of investigative explorations that attempt to elucidate the duality of architecture from different angles. These open examples particularly focus on the broader and more diverse spatiality within architecture, taking architecture as the basis while not limited to it, generating forms while not constraining them, which attempt to propose possible methods, modes, and perspectives of thinking. Such creative explorations emphasizing spatiality without relying on materiality are aimed at unfolding the logical dimensions. #JXYStudio #culture #art #architecture #exhibition https://lnkd.in/edgJFXNk
