Australia’s #financialservices regulator recently trialled an #artificialintelligence system and found that automation alone failed. Humans outperformed AI in the trial, highlighting the importance of augmenting rather than automating, the role of humans in the workforce. In this article Dr Emmanuelle Walkowiak, Affiliate at ADM+S and an #economist from RMIT University, explains why the trajectory of early-stage technology adoption is important, with her research showing organisations are often reluctant to revert technology changes once they are implemented. Sam Altman of OpenAI is touting democracy in The Washington Post but he gets the narrative wrong. Altman doesn't get democracy. Altman makes his case to do what he wants by saying that the United States will become the leader in AI by capitulating to industry. That somehow this will keep AI democratic. Wrong. What will make AI democratic won't be the tax benefits and subsidies to modern-day robber barons. We must embed representative governance into the information and computing ecosystems that surround and feed into AI. We can build #AI and a digital public sphere by/for/of #WeThePeople https://wapo.st/3WlBiw3

“'A year ago, there was a strong narrative about risk and long-term concerns about AI systems being too powerful,' said Davidson, administrator of the National Telecommunications and Information Administration. 'We continue to have concerns about AI safety, but this report reflects a more balanced view that shows that there are real benefits in the openness of these technologies.'” #ai #artificialintelligence #opensource #safety #policy #aisafety #technology

🌍 INNOVATION and REGULATION 🌍 Yesterday, I had the pleasure of attending the session “What’s New with AI on IBM Z and LinuxOne” presented by Steve Warren and Purvi Patel. The discussion highlighted the critical need for balance between innovation and regulation in AI development. As we continue to advance AI technologies, it's essential to foster trust and fairness. This conversation is particularly timely with the recent enforcement of the EU AI Act, which aims to promote responsible AI development and deployment across Europe. Did you know that with the latest version of MLz, you can unlock new functionalities like explainability and model drift? These are key steps toward building trustworthy AI and meeting regulatory requirements. 📌 Learn more about MLz v3.2: https://lnkd.in/ePa7_cQk 🌍 Learn more about EU AI Act: https://lnkd.in/eRApAubd #AI #Innovation #AIRegulation #ResponsibleTech #ExplainableAI #TrustworthyAI #IBMZ #LinuxOne #SHAREkc2024 #SHARE #AIforIBMZ

In tandem with the ACS (Australian Computer Society), we are hosting an insight session titled AI in Human Resources (Transforming People & Culture Functions) - 24th September in Barangaroo- if I haven't messaged you about it, feel free to tap me on the shoulder. In the meantime, I thought the Nov 2023 Guidance on GAI notice from Digital Transformation Agency to be a logical place to start. 2 of their Golden Rules are: 👉You should be able to explain, justify and take ownership of your advice and decisions. 👉Assume any information you input into public generative AI tools could become public. Don’t input anything that could reveal classified, personal or otherwise sensitive information. Good baseline logical thinking to my mind. ✍️ The AI Task Force and the introduction of new AI bills over the next year is just the beginning. Collaboration between private and public sectors in the U.S. can create long-lasting regulations and incentivize the right behaviors by market participants in AI. A timely new article in Nextgov/FCW written by stackArmor's Gaurav Pal discusses how the U.S. can move quickly and set a model for the world. ⬇️

This is Washington Post OP-ED from Sam Altman CEO of OpenAI. Who will control the future of AI? That is the urgent question of our time. The rapid progress being made on artificial intelligence means that we face a strategic choice about what kind of world we are going to live in: Will it be one in which the United States and allied nations advance a global AI that spreads the technology’s benefits and opens access to it, or an authoritarian one, in which nations or movements that don’t share our values use AI to cement and expand their power?

As generative AI continues to advance, it's imperative to establish guidelines for its development and use. I'm particularly interested in the discussion around the cultural implications of AI. Organizations must carefully consider how AI will impact their workforce, decision-making processes, and overall culture. What are your thoughts on the proposed regulations and their potential impact on innovation and business growth? How can we balance the need for oversight with the opportunities presented by AI? #AI #Innovation #FutureOfWork

GenAI plus knowledge graphs is a powerful combination, not yet widely used
"The rich web of connections in a knowledge graph allows generative AI to provide a more comprehensive view of a topic, resulting in higher accuracy and fewer hallucinated or mistaken responses when queried." Let’s protect data and ensure accuracy in #GenAI, so organizations can unlock its potential!
