Listen to what your customers are saying by going through user reviews, product discussions on Reddit, and customer support tickets. Generative AI is transforming contextual advertising. 💡 A recent article from ADWEEK looks at how marketing agencies are leveraging gen AI in connected TV, to analyse the content of a TV series and deliver personalised ads that match the mood of the viewer. 💡 Contextual advertising has always aimed to align ads with the surrounding content, whether on the web or TV. Gen AI takes it a step further by allowing marketers to gauge the emotional sentiment of a show scene by scene, rather than just by the series. 💡 Why does this matter? The study, conducted by Veritonic on a dentsu campaign for Intel Corporation, found that personalized ads increased brand favorability by 18-22 percentage points, boosted purchase intent by 15-18 percentage points, and raised brand awareness by 6-12 percentage points. Our ad wizard, Stew Redwine (Oxford Road VP Creative Services) has this to say: “With stories like these it’s the nuances of what ‘personalization’ entails that are critical to dissect. The study shows a substantial increase in brand favorability and purchase intent. Yet, it begs the question of the depth and nature of the personalization applied 🤔 If we’re talking about geo-based suggestions - like identifying the closest store to the listener - then we’re not far from what has been traditionally done, albeit with a more sophisticated veneer and easier to accomplish at scale. But when does it get creepy? 😬 Liking a coworker’s Instagram post of their trip to Bali is one kind of interaction, but do you lead with that the next time you see them if you haven’t had a real-world conversation already about it? Feels a bit weird, doesn’t it? The real promise of AI in advertising is in its potential to forge deeper emotional connections.
