Some ideas and tips for law students on crafting an impressive resume! 📝💼 1. Be Honest, Be You: Keep it real! Your resume should reflect your authentic self without any exaggerations. Honesty is key to building trust in the legal profession. 2. Highlight What Matters: Shine a spotlight on experiences that matter most – internships, legal clinics, or moot court competitions. These showcase your skills and dedication to the legal field. 3. Words Matter: Choose powerful verbs to describe your achievements. Instead of saying you "did" something, say you "excelled" or "achieved" – it adds punch! 4. Customize, Customize, Customize: Tailor your resume for each job application. Highlight skills and experiences that match what the employer is looking for. It shows you've done your homework! 5. Keep it Structured: Organize your resume logically. Sections like Education, Legal Experience, and Skills make it easy for employers to find what they're looking for. 6. Showcase Your Legal Skills: Whether it's legal research, writing, or analyzing case law, flaunt those legal skills! They're what make you stand out in a crowd. 7. Lead with Leadership: Don't forget to mention leadership roles or extracurricular activities. They demonstrate your ability to work with others and take charge – qualities every employer loves! 8. Dot Your I's and Cross Your T's: Proofread like your career depends on it – because it does! Typos and errors can sink even the strongest resume. Attention to detail is a must in law. Crafting an impressive resume takes time and effort, but with these ideas and tips, you'll be on your way to landing that dream legal internship or legal job! #writing #law #legal #experience #job #future #career #jobs #communication #help #google #building #resume #law #lawstudent #lawstudent #lawinternship #lawsikho #lawyersofinstagram #lawstudents #lawresume #resumewriting #references #language #intern #resumetips #advocate #resumebuilder #supremecourt

Well, for 2 days now, I have reviewed over 100 CVs from law students for an Internship position with us. Honestly, there are applications which were really impressive. However, countless CVs contained basic errors that are easily avoidable. As a law student gearing up for internships or job applications, polishing your CV is crucial. Here are some essential tips to keep in mind: 1. Proofread, proofread, proofread! - Typos, spelling mistakes, and grammatical errors are CV killers. Have multiple people review your CV with a critical eye. 2. Consistency is key - Ensure consistent formatting, font styles, and tenses throughout your CV. Pay attention to details. 3. Quantify your achievements. - Instead of vague descriptions, use concrete numbers, percentages, or metrics to showcase your impact. 4. Customize for each application. - Don't send a generic one-size-fits-all CV. Tailor it to the specific role/company. 5. Be judicious with length. - Aim for 1-2 pages max. Prioritize quality over quantity of content. 6. Use clear section headings. - Divide your CV into logical sections (Education, Experience, Skills, etc.) for easy navigation. 7. Focus on relevance. - Include only information pertinent to the position. Omit irrelevant experiences/activities. 8. Check your contact info. - Ensure your name, email, phone number are up-to-date and professional. I have been trying to reach an applicant with a wonderful profile, but incorrect contact details :/ Hopefully, these tips come handy and help you for your future applications!

“I am a chosen” “I am a chosen” “I am a chosen” “CV who are you?”😂….would have been my mantra every time I applied for a position with a coloring book as CV😂 I recently attended a Mentorship & Training Session organized by the Internship and Employment Forum (WALSA) of which I am a part of on the art of Cv drafting, networking and the rest and eeeiii 😂 the things I learnt, now I know why I wasn’t considered for some positions I applied for because even if it were me I would not have accepted myself too😂 Here are the few things I picked up from the first speaker (Akinkunmi Suulola (AcArb) (God will bless this man for me😩) 📍Use a clean professional layout. Too much color on the template of your CV will give the recipient headache (avoid Jagidijagan on it😂😂😂) 📍Show knowledge and enthusiasm of both the position you’re applying for and the organization you are applying to even if it’s something you know little or nothing about (it’s called professional fine-tuning not lying THE LAW)😂😂 📍Focus on relevant experiences and skills that showcase you are an asset to the organization or firm you’re applying to 📍Ensure your CV or cover letter is precise and concise (stick to making it a page or two not a novella fine boys/girls😂) 📍And lastly, don’t be embarrassed about owning a CV that is not CV-ing, instead ask for help and guidance (after all no man is an island) When you stick to these guideline or make these corrections, I hope your CV comes out looking very demure, very mindful and very professional 🤭 Drop in the comment section other things you think might make your CV an impressionable one. _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ 🎈Seeing my post for the first time? The Lawrit Journal of Law Legal Research and Writing Bootcamp 4.0 concludes with the topic - "CV Optimisation" by Mary Agaba. The speaker gave a thorough pattern for writing a typical legal Curriculum Vitae. A CV format depends on certain circumstances. A person may have different experiences which can change the format of his/her CV. It is not ideal for a fresh graduate's CV to be more than 2 pages. The length of a CV does not guarantee success. A lengthy CV might be a red flag. Tailoring your CV to a job role involves cutting out unnecessary information in your CV that is not required for the job you're applying for. She stated that the structure of a CV should have clear headings with bullet points. Let's have the CV format! 📌 Name (address, phone number, both email address and LinkedIn profile in hyperlink). 📌 Education (the most recent comes first, in some cases, the most relevant comes first). 📌 Internship Experience 📌 Research Experience 📌 Volunteering Experience 📌 Leadership Experience 📌 Additional Information - may include Skills, Interests, Certifications, Research Experience, Volunteering Experience, Leadership Experience, Awards, Recognition & Achievements. N/B: These items under the Additional Information section can have a section of their own. But where you don't have much experience in them, it's best to put them under the Additional Information section to avoid any section looking scanty. Ensure to save your CV in your full name so that it doesn't get missing or misplaced. Your email address must look professional e.g. [email protected]. The bootcamp entirely has been so insightful, ranging from engaging topics to interactive sessions with the speakers. Thanks to the fellow participants, amazing speakers and Lawrit Journal of Law for such awesome experience. #cvoptimisation #cvwriting #legalresearch #legalwriting #lawritBootcamp

Wondering how to make your CV stand out in the crowded legal job market? 🤔 1) It's all in the details. Highlight your relevant coursework, legal internships, and any specific skills that align with the job you're after. Attention to detail is key in law, so make sure your CV is meticulously proofread. A well-organized, clear, and concise CV can set you apart from the competition.💯✨ Law is a competitive field, but your CV can give you a leading edge. 📝 2) Showcase your academic achievements, but also emphasize your extracurricular involvement, leadership roles, and volunteer work. Law firms value well-rounded candidates who bring more than just good grades to the table. Build a narrative that shows you're not just qualified, but also the right fit culturally and personally.✅ 3) Don’t underestimate the power of a well-structured CV. Use clear headers, bullet points, and a logical flow to make it easy for recruiters to navigate your achievements. Include relevant keywords from the job description to pass through applicant tracking systems and grab the attention of hiring managers. Your CV should be a reflection of your legal mind—sharp, precise, and compelling.👨🏽💼 4) When crafting your legal CV, remember: quality over quantity. Focus on the most relevant experiences and accomplishments, and don't overwhelm the reader with unnecessary details. Employers look for candidates who can communicate effectively and efficiently. 🗣️Let your CV demonstrate your ability to prioritize and present information succinctly.🚀 #LawStudentLife #LegalCareer #CVTips #FutureLawyers #LegalProfession #CareerAdvice #LawGraduate

It's not always you get to teach what you call 'your subjects' in academia. What I realised this semester while teaching Legal English to students in the law school is that new subjects open a whole new dimension and world view. Often, we cage ourselves into the nexus of our specialisation. It is uncomfortable to delve into a relatively newer discipline. But while we dive deep into our core, torching upon the peripherals of other disciplines is a definite pay off. Teaching about resume drafting, professional letters, group discussions and personal interviews was an experience, for me as well. I had an opportunity to discuss and delve deep into my own experiences - the jitters when I faced my first placement interview, the anxiousness around the group discussions and the uncountable cover letters that I had sent to professors and organisations, seeking an opportunity to intern. I learnt as well, the intricacies of legal counselling and how communication is so essential for law professionals. One of the major foci during these classes was to acquaint my students with the power of social media platforms in defining the course of their careers. Leveraging LinkedIn and other platforms to create a brand of your own and position yourself amidst the sea of opportunities is important. Will probably talk more about it in the another post.
