A ball whooshed by my head as I attempted to play Altinha, a sport popular on the beaches of Brazil. The goal is to keep a ball in the air for as long as possible, without using your hands. I had so much fun covering the Altinha Club at my school and learning about this popular sport. They let me join in and play with them too! Though I wasn't great, it was a super enjoyable sport! You can read more about this sport in the article I wrote: https://lnkd.in/e8AqHKbZ

The story of Abel Mutai and Iván Fernández is a beautiful example of sportsmanship and integrity. During a cross-country race in Spain in 2012, Kenyan runner Abel Mutai stopped just short of the finish line, thinking he had completed the race. Spanish runner Iván Fernández, who was right behind him, realized what had happened and guided Mutai to the finish line, allowing him to win. This act of kindness and fairness holds several important lessons for our daily lives: 1. Integrity Over Victory Iván Fernández could have easily taken advantage of the situation to win the race himself. Instead, he chose to do the right thing, demonstrating that integrity and honesty are more valuable than winning at any cost. 2. Helping Others Fernández's actions remind us of the importance of helping others, even when it might not benefit us directly. In a world where competition often takes precedence, his gesture shows that supporting one another can lead to more meaningful and fulfilling outcomes. 3. Empathy and Understanding By recognizing Mutai's confusion and stepping in to help, Fernández displayed empathy and understanding. This teaches us to be aware of others' struggles and to offer assistance when we can. 4. Setting an Example Acts of kindness and fairness set a powerful example for others. Fernández's decision to help Mutai has inspired many people around the world, showing that true sportsmanship and humanity transcend the desire to win. 5. Faith and Values For those who value faith, this story can be seen as a reflection of biblical principles such as kindness, compassion, and doing unto others as you would have them do unto you (Luke 6:31). It reminds us to live out our values in every aspect of our lives. This story is a wonderful reminder that our actions, no matter how small, can have a significant impact on others and can inspire positive change in the world. I hope this helps someone

Who loves the game of golf? ⛳ Yesterday, I played 18 holes with three of my colleagues. It was my first time on the green in about 20 years. I was never a fan of the game for one reason: It doesn't push me physically and mentally in ways that action sports do. I grew up on action sports, always pushing myself mentally and physically. I see a lot of parallels between action sports and business. If something doesn't challenge me to the point of wanting to quit, I don't find myself wanting to push forward. However, yesterday's game gave me a new perspective on golf. The social connection I made with my colleagues was an absolute joy. Yes, my game was terrible, but it was a lot of fun to share it with friends. I also found an appreciation to the calculated approach to every hole. The calculated part is mentally stimulating. Will I take up golf as a hobby? Probably not. But will I play again in the near future? Yes, as long as it's with good company.

It is no surprise that I am a big proponent of the values and benefits of amateur sport - including the mental and physical health benefits, the development of skills including team play and resiliency, along with the terrific way sport builds communities and connections. Odense Boldklub (OB), one of Denmark's historic football clubs, have faced significant challenges on the field in recent years, culminating in relegation last season. Yet, the club have managed to achieve remarkable commercial success despite these sporting setbacks. Odense Boldklub’s commercial director, Jack Jørgensen, shares the strategies that have turned these challenges into victories. 1: How did OB achieve commercial success despite poor on-field performance? In 2018, OB shifted its focus from relying on sporting results to enhancing the fan experience and community engagement. This strategic pivot included initiatives like creating a talent program for young entrepreneurs, opening matchday fanzones with local music and food, and developing targeted marketing campaigns. These efforts increased matchday revenue by 160% and significantly boosted season ticket sales and attendance. 2: What role did community engagement play in OB’s strategy? OB worked to strengthen its connection with the local community in Odense. The club engaged residents within a 5 km radius of the stadium, promoted local talents through initiatives like Start OB, and involved educational institutions to attract young fans. 3: How has OB enhanced the stadium experience to attract more spectators? Recognizing that football alone was not enough to draw crowds, OB developed innovative stadium experiences tailored to different audience groups. The club segmented the matchday experience to cater to families, hardcore fans, and young people. This festival-like atmosphere has made attending games more appealing, even when the team’s on-field performance has been lacking. #Partnership #Broadcasting #SportsBusiness #Commercial #Sponsorship #Football #SportsBiz #Finance #People #Data #Tech #Intelligence #Investment

Change without motivating the reason for change does not contribute to a successful implementation and can result in failure. Also in non commercial sports like glider-flying a professional approach to win people's support is the basis of a successful change. Recently we made a big change with a implementation of a new online platform. Glider-pilots from all over the world log their flights on this online platform to compete and share their, sometimes, spectacular flights. We did not only switch, but made it part of a new strategy to help clubs maintain their membership-basis healthy and attractive, at the same time we see it also as an instrument to find and enthuse new talent! Here the link that should give you an idea how such a platform looks https://www.weglide.org/ Voluntary does not mean without obligation, it means hard work and dedication. Nick Hanenburg, Frank Hiemstra, Lizzy van Zomeren, Frank Schellenberg KNVvL WeGlide To be continued, next post maybe again in Dutch, who knows 😎 ✈️ #flyingismagic #flying #gliders #zweefvliegen #competition #voluntary #implementation #change #
