I enjoy learning through visual art. Would you describe them as a form of microlearning? One of my favourites visual communicators is Janis Ozolins Succint. https://lnkd.in/eWTEg4fF

Discovering the Power of Reading Coach in Microsoft’s Immersive Reader I am thrilled to share a remarkable discovery that has the potential to transform reading across the curriculum in our school. A big shout out to Victoria Green, our fabulous Librarian, for finding this invaluable tool - the ‘Reading Coach’ feature in Microsoft’s Immersive Reader for Word Online (amongst other applications). This tool is set to be a game-changer, designed to support our students in enhancing their reading skills for a variety of texts and challenging words. It offers a unique blend of features that make learning an engaging and personalised experience: Phonetic Sound Out: Students can phonetically sound out words they’ve mispronounced, enabling them to understand and correct their mistakes. Visual Aids: The tool provides visual aids to help students understand the context of the word, promoting comprehension. Pronunciation Practice: Students can use the pronunciation feature to rehearse their ‘practice words,’ developing confidence in their reading abilities. What sets this tool apart is its adaptability. The AI responses can be adjusted in terms of sound, sensitivity, and tone, allowing for a tailored learning experience that caters to the needs of each student or class. For a practical demonstration of how this tool works, please watch this video: https://lnkd.in/dVz39F6Q I am eager to hear feedback from anyone who has trialed this in different key phases and departments across their schools. Did you find it effective? What challenges did you face? I believe our outstanding Inclusion department, in particular our Whole School ELL/EAL Lead Sarah Te Hiko, could greatly benefit from this tool. Continuing on from the already wonderful work that has been embedded with the use of Education Perfect's ESL/ESOL/EAL package. Plus, the 'Reading Coach' feature is compatible with our school-wide ViewSonic LCD's, making the potential for practice sessions to be interactive and fun! Looking forward to seeing this in action! #ReadingCoach #Microsoft365 #ImmersiveReader #ReadingForAll

Haven’t posted in a hot minute 🫣 I’m jumping into some new learning design/ learning community work, and it’s got me thinking about how to meet people where they are when changing hearts, minds and behaviours. I dug out this old note on cognition and schemas - looking at how our knowledge is created, retained, challenged, and altered. And why this matters when designing learning/training. (Very text heavy 😬 it was 2020 and I’d just learnt how to turn my handwriting into a font) #learningdesign #cognitivism #changingminds

Effective Uses of Visualizers Modeling Techniques: Teachers can demonstrate writing styles or problem-solving methods live, which helps students learn by example. Peer Learning: Sharing exemplary student work using visualizers encourages peer feedback and discussion, enhancing learning outcomes. Interactive Lessons: Incorporating annotations and interactive elements during presentations keeps students engaged and allows for immediate feedback. In conclusion, visualizers are essential tools in modern classrooms that not only enhance engagement but also streamline the teaching process. Their ability to connect with various devices and integrate multimedia makes them invaluable in promoting effective learning. #Visualizers #EducationTechnology #ClassroomEngagement #TeachingTools #LearningEnhancement #InteractiveLearning #DocumentCamera #StudentEngagement #RemoteLearning #EdTech #TeachingStrategies #RealTimeDemonstration #PeerLearning #ModelingTechniques #LessonRecording #ClassroomInnovation #EducationalResources #DigitalLearning #TeacherTools #LearningOutcomes #TheInteractiveWhiteboardShop

Of the 8.2 Billion people on Earth, 65% of us all share a similar learning structure. Visual learners make up 5,330,000,000 (5.3 billion) of humans. A visual learner is characterised by someone who: - is a quick learner - has a strong facial recall - remembers graphs and diagrams - needs to see directions take place, as opposed to receiving them verbally You can safety assume that 65% of your customer base are also visual learners. This means video is a great asset for you and your business to build relationships with your customers (and potential customers) by providing value through video. Additionally, studies have shown that 95% of the information shared in a video is retained, compared to the same information via text. This means that everything I've just written, you'll likely forget. But if you watch the video below, you'll remember 95% of it! All mediums (audio, written and video) can have a positive influence on the marketing of your brand. But with 65% of the population learning via video, not using video to your company's benefit could cost you leads, sales and profit. What type of learner are you? Visual, Auditory or Kinaesthetic? #learning #video __________________ Hi I’m Didier, ☆ The Creator Of The Brand Film Framework ⇰ Connecting you with your customers on a deeper and more emotive level to forge long-lasting brand loyalty by telling your brand story through film. #eLearning tip of the day – Add Universal Design Elements Universal Design for Learning is a framework for creating flexible learning environments according to Bill Brandon’s Learning Guild article. Learning professionals can apply this theory by using multiple means of: - Representation: Provide multiple ways for students to interact with content (e.g., text, audio, images, videos). Present information and content in different ways. - Action and Expression: Enable students to interact with content differently (e.g., through movement, art, writing). Allow learners to approach tasks and show knowledge in various ways. - Engagement: Trigger students’ interests and motivation by using relevant and exciting content. #motivation #variety #interaction https://lnkd.in/eNAjbc8x

Looking for insightful reading by the lake this weekend? Our latest publication in Learning and Instruction might pique your (situational) interest. We investigated the importance of narrative frames in instructional videos and found that they are crucial for fostering sustained learning over time. Spoiler alert: Narratives significantly enhance the perceived value of topics. Without a narrative, emotional design elements can impede learning, much like seductive details. The sustained learning benefit of narratives stems from their ability to develop situational interest. Whether you're a teacher or learning self-regulated from instructional videos, don't skip the narrative introduction. It engages learners, helps them focus, develops interest, and sustains learning—essential for effective education especially online. Special thanks to my amazing co-authors Alexander Eitel, K. Ann Renninger, Charlotte Vössing, and Alexander Renkl! Also, a big thank you to Tom Endres for the background music composition & Kevin Ackermans for the organisation of the special issue.
