April is recognized by Virginia and across the U.S. as National Safe Digging Month (NSDM). As temperatures rise and spring digging projects begin, it serves as an important reminder to contact Virginia 811 Before You Dig. Whether you’re a professional excavator, contractor, or homeowner, Virginians play a crucial role in preventing damage to underground utilities. Regardless of the project’s scale, contacting Virginia 811 to request utility line markings before digging helps avoid physical injury, property damage, costly repairs, and service interruptions. Hwy 23 in Ripon Wisconsin. We just completed the field work for a 2 mile Corridor of a highway. It is slang, but just as the name suggests, a corridor survey is performed within a corridor of an area of land, in this case a Highway. We were asked to perform a topographic survey of this specific corridor. The topographic survey included elevations (height of the ground) and locating and mapping underground utilities, sanitary sewer manholes, storm sewer structures, natural gas valves, watermain valves and hydrants, center of the highway as traveled, identifying the individual lanes, showing the curbs and sidewalks along the road, light poles, signs, traffic signals, drive openings, handi-cap ramps, all the homes along the highway, retaining walls, traffic signs, fences, property corners, etc... There is a lot to explain with all the different features we had to locate and map, but basically, the picture shown is only a very small part of the 2 mile stretch, but if you see it in the picture, we have located and mapped it. This file was over 15,000 points of data that were manually obtained by Survey equipment. Needless to say, no matter your project, I got you covered, send me a message let me know of your needs. If anything, I can walk you through the process. (414) 755-1110

For us in the construction industry, we simply cannot ignore the effects changing weather patterns are having on the way we live. Our building codes in Florida continue to evolve to meet the need for stronger, more resilient structures that can better withstand rising waters and hurricane aftermaths, but as developers and contractors, we can do more. As we work to combat flooding concerns with quality builds, here are some areas to focus on: - Improving structural materials with flood-hardy components including windows, siding, and doors - Implementing back-up power methods – all buildings should be equipped with a standalone gas-powered generator that comes with an automatic transfer switch. - Move power lines underground - most people who don’t lose power during an outage have underground service. - An understanding of the type of commercial build and its location – whether in a flood zone or not, we must account for climate and geography when designing and building commercial projects in South Florida.

A vital roadway in West Virginia faced a serious challenge when an active landslide threatened its stability. We arrived on-site the same day, finding tension cracks along the roadway's edge and visible pavement slumping. Our team immediately got to work, proposing an A-wall with underpinning support to contain the slide’s horizontal movement and stabilize the shifting ground. This project wasn’t without its challenges. We had to address an active, complex landslide on a busy, high-traffic route that couldn’t afford full closure. Despite these obstacles, our solution controlled the landslide, restoring stability to the slope and ensuring the safety of the traveling public on this critical roadway. #LandslideRemediation #SlopeStabilization #InfrastructureSafety #EngineeringSolutions

IN THE SPOTLIGHT: Levi Clagett, EI, led the storm sewer design to reconstruct Sim's Street in Dickinson, ND. As the lead designer, he analyzed rainfall runoff to size the storm sewer network to convey those flows correctly. Projects like these are challenging because they require designing in between or around existing underground utilities while meeting design criteria. https://lnkd.in/gPvVkd7e #stormwatersolutions #WaterEngineering #InfrastructureUpgrade

Everyone loves to complain about road closures, like the contractor has any say or choice in the matter….😅 We are just trying to complete a project, and our team make it home safely everyday to their families. Our mission tends to look slightly different and some times comes with inconveniences… I completely understand how frustrating it is to turn a corner avoiding one road closure to find another orange sign impededing your day further… But please know, that all construction projects scheduling has 0 to do with fellas out on those projects just trying to safe thru the day to make it home their families. Please keep your fingers, gestures and unkind words to yourself and just entrust they are turning you around from a hazard currently… But most likely you will drive on the road that we placed in use, and not one comment will be made about how smooth the asphalt transitions are, or how effective the new drainage is with no sheet water on the road due to proper curb inlets with proper storm drainage, nor will they talk about all the upgrades to the Utilites under the road so we can ensure your drive isn’t impeded further in the future. It’s extremely hard to take pride in your work, when 95% of it is buried to never to be seen again. But we do it!💪 It’s all about perspective! https://lnkd.in/gsFVRxwy
