Want to build a business that moves mountains? Start by creating urgency. What separates businesses that soar from those that stagnate? The ability to create urgency. Here’s an example: during his campaign, Trump didn’t just talk—he created urgency. Every speech, every headline, every pivot was designed to grab attention and demand action. The result? A movement that mobilized millions. Now, think about your business. Are you creating that same sense of urgency for your clients? Are you giving them a compelling reason to choose YOU today instead of “someday”? Urgency isn’t about pressuring your audience—it’s about showing them the value of acting NOW. When you do that, you stop selling and start solving. And that’s when your business takes off. The question is: are you ready to start creating urgency for your clients? In this week’s episode of Built to Sell Radio, John Warrillow interviews Kaelon Egan, the founder of AccelaSchool, who successfully sold his company to PowerSchool—a giant in the K–12 education technology space. For most founders, the ultimate dream is to sell to a strategic acquirer: a well-funded industry leader with deep pockets. Egan shares exactly how he positioned his company to become a natural acquisition target, avoiding common pitfalls along the way. You’ll discover how to: • Position your business to attract a strategic acquirer. • Sell to large, bureaucratic organizations by understanding their decision-making processes. • Identify when a partnership discussion is really a veiled acquisition conversation. • Build your business to fit seamlessly into a suitor’s ecosystem. • Decide whether to focus on one perfect buyer or broaden your appeal to multiple acquirers. • Avoid earn-outs while still creating a deal that works for both sides. If selling your business to an industry powerhouse is part of your long-term vision, this episode offers a practical blueprint for how to get there. In the 90s, direct mail was king—millions of pieces going out every day. But then one of my clients introduced me to a groundbreaking technology: voice broadcasting. It clicked immediately. Instead of competing with junk mail in the mailbox, we were now directly in people’s homes, delivering a message through their answering machines. The power of the human voice to convey urgency was a game-changer. I saw an opportunity. I worked with the founder of the technology, who was struggling with the wrong business model. Together, we turned it into a hosted solution and converted all of my direct mail into voice broadcasting. The results were incredible. Before long, I realized this wasn’t just for small businesses. We took the technology to the Fortune 500—J.P. Morgan Chase, AT&T—and 20 years later, they’re still clients. In this episode of Good Business with Clay Vaughan, I talk about the importance of spotting opportunities early and leveraging them for growth. Technology has the power to transform industries when applied the right way. Remember your #journey. It will tell you far more than the result ever can. When you hear of #business successes and the #founders describe the way it happened, what are you really listening for? The happy ending? Or how they got there? To create a successful strategy you don't look at the way it ended, but the steps that were taken to get there. And then you incorporate those steps into your own context, your own journey. It doesn't guarantee the same outcome, but it at least maximises your chances of creating the same energy around your vision.
