The festive season can be tough for so many reasons - financial pressures, strained relationships, loneliness, loss, not actually celebrating Christmas yourself, but being surrounded by it anyway, the list is endless. You are certainly not alone if you find yourself feeling less than festive right now. Here's some simple things you can do to support your nervous system, if you find you're having a tough time: ☀️ Warmth is a safety cue for our nervous systems, so settling down for a moment of stillness with a warming drink can help recenter and ground you back in the present moment. ☀️ Physiological sigh is one of the most effective breathwork strategies to interrupt a nervous system response. If you find yourself feeling flustered, give it a try. A deep breath in, followed by a quick extra sip of breath all in through the nose, followed by a big sigh out. Try three in a row and see how that changes your state. ☀️ Movement can help you to relieve tension and release endorphins, try taking a walk, yoga or having a good old dance round the living room to an upbeat tune. ☀️ Our nervous systems are soothed by our senses. Using a weighted blanket can often times give your body the sense of being warmed and gently held and contained which can help you slide back into a rest and digest state. ☀️ Being in nature can support us massively when it comes to regulating our nervous system. The chemicals that plants give off help us find balance in our systems, natural light helps us keep our circadian rhythms in balance, fresh air can help you feel refreshed and any movement you do can support the release of endorphins and relive tension. What's not to like? Give them a go and let me know what you think. #selfregulation #nervoussystem #soothing #emotionalwellbeing #mentalwellbeing

This time of year can get incredibly busy, meaning that many of our good habits go out of the window – exercise included. However, it’s really important that we stay active over the festive period and avoid the temptation to lounge around in our PJs! Whilst you may not be able to keep up your usual exercise routine, it’s worth setting yourself some boundaries for what is achievable throughout December and try to stick to this. Even if you only manage to get to one exercise session per week instead of your usual three, it will stand you in better stead. Avoiding the temptation to cancel exercise altogether and waiting to start again in the new year, will only make it harder once January does come around. And with the darker days, there’s also the temptation to hibernate and feel less inclined to go out of an evening. So, where possible, try to get yourself out during natural daylight for some fresh air and a walk. This will not only help keep your step count up, it will also support a positive wellbeing and sleep pattern. And don’t forget, when you engage in physical activity, your body delivers oxygen and nutrients to your cells, which results in increased energy. Therefore by keeping active, you'll find yourself feeling more alert, focused, and ready to fully get into the swing of the festivities! #5pillarsofvitality #Move #BusinessAsAForceForGood #Christmas #FestiveSeason #Exercise #KeepingActive

Don't Ditch December" Training Tip: Schedule your workouts BEFORE holiday gatherings for the best success rate. The festive season is almost upon us. How will you find time to slow down and restore some calm over the coming weeks? Let’s not beat around the bush: Christmas can be hectic. With family to see, presents and food to buy, and a packed social calendar, you can come away from this season feeling even more stressed and exhausted than you went into it! That’s why I'm a big advocate of carving out moments of calm for yourself – even when life is moving a million miles an hour. This festive season, set aside a few minutes each day to slow down, be present and engage your senses. You might do this through meditation, journalling or a walk in nature. No matter what a moment of calm looks like to you, maintaining this habit will help you achieve a more peaceful, fulfilling and mindful Christmas break. Spending time reflecting and returning to your body will leave you feeling energised, restored and able to connect deeper with your loved ones and the world around you. What is your favourite way to spend a moment of calm? #Learning #LeadershipCoaching #PersonalDevelopment #Mindset
