Procrastination is often viewed negatively, but it can be a natural and beneficial part of time management. A recent survey of 20 Michiana Gen Z individuals found that procrastination is a common issue they experience. To address this, leaders and managers should help strengthen and create a well-functioning stress response. 🔺 Recognizing Procrastination is a natural human tendency, not inherently negative. It's a signal from our mind that something about the task is causing resistance. By acknowledging procrastination, we can understand its roots and address underlying issues. 🔺Positioning Procrastination can be positioned strategically within the time management process. Instead of viewing it as a barrier, consider it a pause for reflection and reassessment. This pause can provide valuable insights into how a task can be approached more effectively. 🔺Powering Through Procrastination can be a powerful motivator when harnessed correctly. By setting realistic deadlines and allowing for short periods of procrastination, a deadline-driven person can tap into a heightened state of productivity. 🔹 Takeaway: Employers can help Gen Z staff manage stress and procrastination, leading to a more productive and satisfied workforce. By recognizing procrastination, positioning it strategically, and using it as a source of motivation, individuals can transform it into a powerful tool for achieving their goals. 🌟 The most productive thing you can do today might be... nothing at all. In our "always-on" culture, we've forgotten a crucial truth: Rest isn't the enemy of productivity—it's the foundation of it. Three insights that transformed my approach to time management: 1. The 90/10 Rule Schedule only 90% of your time. That remaining 10% buffer? It's not wasted—it's where creativity thrives and problems get solved. 2. Rest is Active Your brain processes information, consolidates memories, and tackles complex problems during downtime. Those "aha moments" rarely come while staring at spreadsheets. 3. Quality > Quantity Two hours of focused work beats four hours of scattered attention. Period. What's working for me: • No-screen time before bed • One "white space" day monthly • 5-minute breaks between tasks 🎯 The ROI is clear: Better decisions. Sharper thinking. Lower stress. Higher quality work. Challenge: Block 30 minutes tomorrow for intentional "nothing time." No phone. No distractions. Just you and your thoughts. What emerges might surprise you. #Productivity #MentalHealth #Leadership #TimeManagement #WellnessAtWork

There’s something deeply uncomfortable about feeling out of control –daily life in HE can be frenetic, demanding and relentless. And so it’s easy to feel that the demands of the job are controlling your day. And they will, if you let them. I know – I’ve been there and felt the resulting discomfort and self-recrimination. Rationally you know it’s about setting clear boundaries, ruthless prioritisation and learning to say no (judiciously!). But you don’t have time to think about that because your day has already started! Time management tips, productivity hacks - they’re all very well - but they are languishing in a curled up post-it note in the cupboard and never seem to translate into reality. Becoming at ease with your finite time and energy is the first step to feeling more in control. It enables you to be purposeful about what you choose to pay attention to and what you intentionally discount. And holding that position takes practice and patience. And that’s why I work with leaders in HE to help them to feel more in control, so they can survive and thrive in the wonderful and volatile world of HE. #LeadershipAndManagement #RegainControl #OliverBurkeman

Being busy is NOT the same as being productive. Packed schedules and endless tasks mean you are doing more- not necessarily achieving more. Productivity is about effectiveness, not busyness. It is about making meaningful progress on what matters MOST. Here’s how you can shift from being busy to being productive: → Prioritize outcomes over activities. Focus on tasks that bring measurable results instead of simply filling your day with things to do. → Learn to say no. Being selective about where you invest your time ensures you’re not spreading yourself too thin. → Use tools and systems that simplify. Automation, delegation, and planning can free up your time for higher-value work. → Take breaks to recharge. Burnout doesn’t equal productivity. Resting your mind is essential for clarity and focus. → Evaluate daily progress, not just effort. At the end of the day, ask yourself: Did I move closer to my goals? Remember- the goal isn’t to do more but to do what's impactful. #highachieverscoach #productivity

Delegate Tasks and Learn to Say No: A Guide to Optimizing Productivity. Overcommitment and inefficient task management not only hamper your productivity but also lead to BURNOUT. 1. Delegate Tasks to Maximize Productivity Delegation is not just about offloading work; it's about smart work distribution to enhance team efficiency and personal productivity. Here's how to delegate effectively: - Assess Team Strengths: Assign tasks based on individual skills and expertise, ensuring optimal outcomes. - Set Clear Expectations: Clearly outline what you need done, including deadlines and desired outcomes, to prevent misunderstandings. - Equip Your Team: Ensure they have the necessary resources and support to complete tasks successfully. - Monitor Progress: Regular check-ins help keep the team on track and offer support or feedback as needed. 2. Master the Art of Saying No Learning to say no is pivotal in managing your workload and prioritizing tasks that align with your goals. Here's how to do it without guilt: - Evaluate Your Workload: Before taking on more, assess your current commitments. Overloading yourself is counterproductive. - Prioritize Goals: Focus on tasks that align with your long-term objectives. Non-essential tasks can often be declined or delegated. - Assess Urgency and Importance: Not all requests require immediate attention. Evaluate their impact on your responsibilities and projects. - Offer Alternatives: If you can't fulfill a request, suggest alternatives or compromise on a solution that works for both parties. 3. Finding the Balance: The Outcome By effectively delegating tasks and learning to say no, you can expect a significant transformation in just three months: - Increased Productivity: Focusing on high-priority tasks enhances your efficiency and output. - Improved Work Quality: With more time to dedicate to crucial projects, the quality of your work improves. - Enhanced Team Dynamics: Effective delegation empowers your team, improving morale and fostering a collaborative work environment. - Stress Reduction: By managing your workload effectively, you reduce stress and avoid burnout, leading to a healthier work-life balance.
