#Paris2024 𝐌𝐞𝐞𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐃𝐚𝐧𝐞𝐬 – 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐚 𝐁𝐚𝐜𝐤𝐰𝐚𝐫𝐝𝐬-𝐀𝐠𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐉𝐞𝐥𝐥𝐲𝐟𝐢𝐬𝐡! Through our video installation 'Windows to Denmark' at the Denmark Pavilion, you can meet innovative Danish thinkers dedicated to making a difference. We celebrate the ideas that inspire and contribute to creating a better way of living and show how community-driven change has been part of the Danish DNA for centuries. One of these thinkers is the 28-year-old PhD student Nicklas Brendborg, author of the hugely successful 'Jellyfish Age Backwards: Nature's Secrets to Longevity', which has been translated into more than 30 languages, featured in prominent media like The New York Times, and has sold more than 500,000 copies worldwide. About his window at the Pavilion, Nicklas says: “It’s a giant honor. When I’m not good enough to be on the team for football or handball, this is an awesome way to represent Denmark. And actually, when it comes to biomedicine, Denmark and Københavns Universitet - University of Copenhagen are definitely frontrunners.” Nicklas’ book, 'Jellyfish Age Backwards: Nature's Secrets to Longevity', is a love letter to nature and, among other things, explores how aging in the animal kingdom can inspire humans and science alike to live longer and better lives. For instance, the tiny jellyfish that can age forward and then, when threatened, age backward and begin the process all over again. Or the Greenland shark, still living today, that was already 286 years old when the Titanic sank. But why look at animals? “It’s definitely a personal interest of mine. I always wanted to write the book that I wanted to read. But also, when it comes to biology, we are so lucky that we can go out into nature and look at other animals like ourselves. If another living being can live for 200 years, maybe we can do that too”, says Nicklas Brendborg. #DenmarkPavilion2024 #NicklasBrendborg #BetterLife

Professor David James, CEO of Labosport Group, is a Director and Fellow of the (ISEA) International Sports Engineering Association and has been continuously involved with the organization since 2002. This year's ISEA conference, in its 15th year, reaffirmed its status as the premier global gathering for sports engineering research, attracting top academic researchers, industry leaders, and representatives from prestigious sports federations such as FIFA, World Rugby, International Hockey Federation (FIH) and the International Tennis Federation . The focus on sport surfaces was a highlight of the conference where David James chaired several sessions, showcasing groundbreaking research. Notably, the collaborative work between Loughborough University and Labosport on the rotational traction test for synthetic turf, led by Harry McGowen, was presented. This innovative research promises to enhance the safety and efficiency of sports surfaces. Professor David James and Professor Paul Fleming also presented a paper on their work with the FIH regarding the step change to using 'dry' turf for elite level play in field hockey. David Rigby and Carolyn Webb, both with Labosport UK, were also in attendance, taking advantage of the opportunity to engage with the latest advancements and networking with leading experts in the field. For those interested in exploring the research further, full peer-reviewed papers are available here: Springer Link: https://lnkd.in/eEVPhG4M Nature: https://lnkd.in/eCns6BGu #SportsEngineering #ISEA #ISEA2024 #Innovation #Research #Collaboration #SportsScience

I was pleased to contribute to the ongoing EIT HEI Initiative event today in Brussels to once again represent EURASHE, E.I.N.S. E³UDRES² European University Entrepreneurship and Innovation Network for Smart and Sustainable Regions and Fachhochschule St. Pölten. My main issues: - It is all about passionate and open-minded colleagues. With support from the EIT HEI Initiative we have enabled and empowered these „Ent-re-e-novators“ (Entrepreneurs, researchers, educators, innovators) who drive necessary change and transformation of higher education. - We have to re-shape higher education institutions and connect them closer to society and industries in order to co-create impact and help to solve societal, ecological and economic challenges. We have to re-think our roles to overcome an increasing lack of trust in science that is not only widespread amongst people that we first leave behind and then blaim to vote far right- or left-wing. Also CEOs of successful companies, like for instance Leonhard Birnbaum in an interview in DIE ZEIT a few month ago, point out the scientists are irrelevant for him, as they are only able to answer his questions in 20 or 30 years time, but he has to take decisions and act right now… - We have to manage complexity, act opportunity driven and - at least from time to time - leave our cosy scientific bubbles and academic ivory towers. We have to join all our forces and co-create mutual benefits together with various stakeholders. We have to build on the diversity of European regions as most relevant source for both innovation and resilience. Yes, we are „Stronger Together“, as we recently pointed out during our EURASHE Annual Conference.
📢EURASHE President Hannes Raffaseder today joined a #PolicyPanel at the closing event of the EIT HEI Initiative pilot phase, alongside Antoaneta Angelova-Krasteva - European Commission, Valtencir M. Mendes - UNESCO and Heinrich Arnold, EIT - European Institute of Innovation and Technology Board member. Secretary General John Edwards is also involved in the event leading a workshop on #SmartSpecialisation. The HEI Initiative, funded by #HorizonEurope recognises HEIs as the pivotal actors in #regional and #European innovation ecosystems. EURASHE, whose members are deeply embedded in their regional innovation ecosystems, organised a webinar with the #EIT on the last call and plans another for the next call this autumn. “The Danube bend” -Le notre competition 2025 The Danube bend is a beautiful area nearby Budapest. Villages follow the flow of the Danube river and majestic nature surrounds the area. How do we maintain these communities and develop a deep connection with nature while Budapest slowly expands towards these areas? Maybe you can’t control urban sprawl, but can we steer it? What impact does urban sprawl have on nature and the traditional communities? We strive for a way to create a growth where nature and communities can co-exist with the new people moving in. A system supporting efficient sprawling while bridging diverse values. 🌱⚖️🧎🏻➡️ Maybe you have some interesting insights about this topic. We are open for contact and curious for your ideas! For the following weeks, we will work diligently to realize this complex system. We look forward to the interesting insights from our network. #LeNotreCompetition2025 Hogeschool Van Hall Larenstein – VHL University of Applied Sciences
