Take SAFETY AS A CORE VALUE and not just your priority. NOTE THAT: 1. A continuous yellow or white marked line at the middle of a single or double carriage road, means overtaking another vehicle while driving at that marked area is strictly prohibited/not allowed. SAFETY TIPS: a. Avoid over speeding b. Maintain a distance by time of about 2-3 seconds gap between your vehicle and the vehicle ahead of you. Note that it is advised that this gap should be increased in adverse weather conditions or at higher speed. c. In terms of meters, maintain at least 30 meters between your vehicle and the vehicle ahead of you when traveling at highway speed. However, always remember to adjust your following distance based on the specific conditions you are driving in to ensure safety. Happy Democracy day for our HSE brothers in Nigeria.

Summary/Abstract of the presentation: A Repeat Incident/Event/Accident is a subsequent incident that occurs in the same or similar circumstances as a previous incident, often due to the same root causes or contributing factors (Source: Safety Science, 2019) Many organizations put effort into managing safety to prevent accidents, incidents and disasters. Despite these efforts, incidents keep recurring, resulting in injuries and in damage to the environment Repeat incidents may occur due inadequate analysis of past incidents, failure to effectively implement appropriate controls, complacency amongst others. An organization learns by detecting events, conducting quality analysis or investigations, by reflecting on them, by learning lessons from them and by putting these lessons into practice. By learning from incidents, accidents and disasters that have occurred, organizations expect to further improve the safety levels and prevent future incidents. The recent boat tragedy involving a movie production crew in Nigeria is a stark reminder of the urgent need for improved health and safety measures in the country. This applies to all sectors, ranging from construction to the entertainment industry. As a dedicated health and safety professional, I call on federal and state agencies, including the Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment to implement robust action plans addressing safety concerns. Key measures include strengthening regulations, enhancing training and awareness, enforcing compliance, improving emergency response preparedness, strengthening the unsafe work refusal process, and fostering collaborative efforts. Let us honour the memory of those we have lost by taking decisive action to prevent similar tragedies in the future. Join me in advocating for meaningful change and ensuring that no life is ever again lost due to negligence or oversight. Good news!! this time in field of Road Safety :) - Our research article, "Enhancing Road Safety Decision-Making through Analysis of Youth Survey Data: A Descriptive Statistical Approach" (co-authored with colleagues), has been accepted for publication in "Safety Journal"! It explores how youth survey data can improve road safety decisions. - Also, in the same project; our advocacy toolkit, "Together to Engage the Youth Towards Safe and Sustainable Mobility," is also out! This toolkit, developed by the same team as part of the Local Actions Project "Youth Acting for Zero Road Fatalities in Morocco" (funded by YOURS organization), empowers young people in road safety policymaking. The toolkit offers valuable insights for decision-makers. People are afraid of being seen as someone who doesn't know? Ah! Everytime I go a new place, I ask questions about directions. I ask at least 5 people. Yes. The street term "follow who knows road" is why I'm upset now. Because some of you don't get it. What that means is, get update before you jump. The talk about knowledge being power is that you have an edge which keeps you in front. You're planning to move to Lagos next year, get update about how it works, what happens here? who do you need to know? who do you need to ask? Am I asking the right people? What do I need to do? Ask, ask and ask. The right questions will lead you to the right results faster. The more you know, the better you avoid mistakes.
