At Associated Healthcare Credit Union, our legacy spans 71 years of partnering with hospitals, systems, and other heathcare employers to enhance the financial well-being of their team members. We understand their vital role and are committed to supporting them. In just two days, I've gained an even deeper understanding of the challenges hospitals face and the need for our complimentary financial well-being resources to lift financial stress from healthcare heroes. I am also inspired by the hospitals commitment to supporting all team members. Whether it’s through exploring AI to allow clinicians to focus on patients, or ways to share appreciation, it’s heartwarming to see the empathy and commitment hospitals have for their employees. Leaving behind the familiar corridors of the NHS, I embarked on a new journey—one that blends my clinical expertise with a strategic vision. 🌐 🔍 A Shift in Perspective: In my new role, I’ve discovered that my clinical mindset isn’t left behind; it’s an integral part of my strategic toolkit. By understanding patient needs at a granular level, I can now shape services and initiatives that truly make a difference. 🌿 🌎 Broadening Impact: The scope of my work has expanded. No longer confined to individual patient interactions, I now influence healthcare delivery across a wider canvas. It’s exhilarating to know that my decisions ripple through the community, ensuring timely care by the right clinicians. ⏰💙 🚀 Just the Beginning: This transition is merely the prologue. I’m fueled by the prospect of what lies ahead. Barking, Havering and Redbridge University Hospitals NHS Trust is on an inspiring journey of improvement. After navigating some challenging years, the Trust is now out of special measures and on a rapid upward trajectory. Their Chief Executive, Matthew Trainer, recently came top in the HSJ's annual ranking of the top 50 CEOs in the country We worked alongside the Trust's executive team and strategy leads, supporting them to develop a renewed organisational purpose and strategy. The project presented some challenges: ⏳ Tight timelines ⚖ Balancing strategic planning with pressing operational demands 🌱 Cultivating long-term vision amidst day-to-day urgencies But, despite these hurdles, the Trust's dedication to improvement shone through. This collaboration highlighted several insights: ➡ Significant positive change is achievable, even in complex healthcare settings ➡ Strategic thinking remains crucial, especially during operational challenges ➡ Partnerships can be a catalyst for transformative change What we loved about this project, was how much the Trust listened to people when making decisions. It demonstrates the potential for positive change when healthcare professionals unite around a shared purpose. What does it look like to strengthen diversity, equity, and inclusion in the healthcare workforce? Many resolute leaders working to advance diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) are doing so in challenging circumstances. Now, more than ever, we need to ensure efforts that increase the diversity within public health and the healthcare workforce are supported and invested in over the long-term. RWJF is deepening our commitment to DEI, increasing our investments toward a more diverse healthcare workforce by 60 percent over the next three years. Recognizing organizations may be wrestling with where to go from here, we convened a discussion with a brilliant group of leaders. These leaders have combined resources and ideas to address institutional changes to dismantle racism in academic admissions and health professional training.
