📣 PSA: Candidate experience at web3 companies sucks…yet it’s such a low lift improvement to stand out and onboard more users/ambassadors/culture carriers. Our co-founder Mohammed Ahmed had a bit of time to play around with the various Careers pages across web3 and thought it was mind blowing just how out-of-the-box and monotone the hiring journey looks like across the board. But we’ll let him tell the story 👇 “Picture this: I’m a candidate applying at a popular wallet startup (role doesn’t matter). I go through the company’s Greenhouse or Ashby Careers Page, apply for the role, and I get hit up with an email: “Thanks for applying to (name redacted). Your application has been received and will be reviewed by our team. Please keep an eye out for a response in the coming days.” WTF?!! The above is an automated response from a real web3 startup. Despite being very common, it’s also a huge miss from a brand marketing and user onboarding perspective. Why? It assumes that the candidate applying has used your product. In reality, 60-70% (maybe even more) of candidates applying have never used your product and may never know what it is. This is one of the effects of applying to jobs through a job board (hiring teams, please turn off LinkedIn Easy Apply). It misses the opportunity to engage a user that’s applying to the company with an experience that leads to a download, an install, or a mere follow. Well thanks for pointing out the obvious Mo. Well, if it’s so obvious, why aren’t more teams catering the candidate experience around business metrics and how to help their companies drive user growth? 💡 I want to apologize to all the hiring teams who may have seen my Test applications over the past couple of weeks. For those who rejected me, I love you. ❤️ For those who never responded, let’s do a better job. This goes out to teams at OpenSea Rarible Aptos Labs Monad Labs Consensys Phantom Tensor Ava Labs Solana Labs Coinbase” Just for fun, we reimagined what Phantom’s experience could look like (see slides for what we came up with). Oh, and for companies and hiring teams who may be interested, we offer a free candidate experience analysis between you and competitors. 👀 acceleratalent.xyz

When Ikechukwu Onuoha and myself send out introductions for SentientXT, we typically use a line: “…to ensure that mission driven, tech enabled and people focused businesses don’t die on their way to destiny”. And then sometimes, if it suits our purpose we brag a bit about the work we do and have done for some brands that fit the description above. What do we do at SentientXT? We create work that respects the human construct, that elevate brands from objects of desire to human-conscious entities, backed by purpose. It’s not entirely all we do, the typical run-of-the-mill stuff happens but this is the core of what we do. Over the years, I have seen creativity commonised and trivialised by the people in the creative field themselves. If you take a look at Technology as an ecosystem, it really has always been there. Before Facebook there was MySpace, AOL came 10 years before the first version of Yahoo. Then technology was effective but it was not sexy (nothing close to now). Programming (language) tutorials were dirt cheap and people still struggled to show up. Then technology was a background enabler. Tech guys didn’t have (popular) respect. The term ‘nerds’ implied more of an insult than a cool identifier that’s it morphing in today. I could go on, but I am sure you get the point. The same exists with the Creative scene, with Advertising as a matter of fact. Despite how vital we are in ensuring businesses succeed in the marketplace… the respect and the value for the work is still largely lacking. Looking at the astonishing growth on the tech scene (in comparison to Creative/Advertising Scene), I reckon that what’s drawing us back is: We are not obsessed enough. About the craft… How do we tell stories, faster, better and simpler? What visual techniques represents better value for our ideas and our customers? About people… What do people want? Can we really predict human behavior? How? How do we improve lives? About co-creation… How do we help clients create better products? How can we cut down time to market? How do we help clients meet identifiable needs in the market for consumers? The more applicative technology got, the better the world got and the better the ecosystem thrived. In the same vein, the more applicative creativity gets, the better the world gets and the better our ecosystem thrives. There are very few things in this world more powerful than a story.

"AI is coming for your job!" Me: "Good luck 😉" This tweet made me laugh. BUT there's a real point in it. 87% of YC's recent cohort were AI companies. Saw an AI tool last week that makes your AI avatar. Which sits in Zoom meetings for you. People laughed and ruled it out. 👀 My 0.02? Don't rule it out so early. It sounds kind of ridiculous TODAY. BUT so did these years ago 👇 Remember when Bitcoin was just "magic internet money"? Now it's discussed as "digital gold" by Wall Street. Remember when the cloud was "just someone else's computer"? Now it powers 94% of enterprises. Remember when social media was "just for kids"? Now it drives $250B+ in annual revenue. 📌 The pattern is clear: What sounds ridiculous today? Often becomes reality tomorrow. When you're the first to test a new workflow? It can become a solid edge to help you win. So don't rule out AI use cases. Until you try them ✌️ -- 👋 P.S. I'm hiring at Redcar.io - Associate Product Manager (entry level) - Founding Full-stack Engineers - Sr Product Designer Know someone great? Tag them below please!

I'm not one for doom and gloom, but I address the #VideoGameIndustry's 2023 challenges with a focus on #Solutions, #Hope, and #RiskMitigation. Understanding these shifts is key to paving new paths. As a game developer and business developer in the #VideoGameIndustry for many years, I approach the events of 2023 with both concern and a sense of responsibility. This year was a paradox, with its remarkable gaming successes shadowed by significant challenges within the #DeveloperCommunity. My goal in interpreting the insights from the #GameDevelopersConference survey is to provide a thoughtful and balanced perspective. I seek to delve into the complexities these trends represent, emphasizing the need for understanding, adaptation, and proactive measures in navigating the industry's future. 🎮 Reflecting on 2023: A year of gaming highs juxtaposed with industry lows. 👩💻 Observing the impact: Over a third of developers affected by #Layoffs. 🤖 AI in gaming: My take on the role and potential ramifications of #AITechnology. 🛠️ Noting the trend: The specific impact on #QualityAssurance workers and their emerging #Unionization efforts. 🏢 Industry #Consolidation: Analyzing its mixed implications for the diverse ecosystem of #GamingStudios. Solutions and Risk Mitigation in the #VideoGameIndustry In light of the challenges faced in 2023, focusing on solutions and risk avoidance is crucial for the #VideoGameIndustry. The impact of #IDFA changes, the evolving landscape of #UserAcquisition, and the integration of #AI are key areas to address. 1. #IDFA Impact and User Acquisition: With #IDFA changes altering traditional tracking methods, it’s vital to adopt new #UserAcquisition strategies. Embracing privacy-focused approaches, like contextual advertising, and focusing on first-party data can help navigate these changes. Additionally, leveraging social media and community-driven marketing will be crucial in the more competitive #DigitalMarketing landscape. 2. Embracing #AI: #AI is an invaluable tool that's reshaping our industry. It's essential to integrate AI in game development and player engagement strategies. AI can streamline production, enhance game environments, and offer personalized experiences. Preparing our workforce for AI integration through training and upskilling is also vital to mitigate job displacement risks. In summary, adapting to post-#IDFA marketing strategies, harnessing AI's potential in game development, and focusing on innovative user acquisition techniques are key for the industry's resilience and growth. By embracing these changes, we can navigate the industry’s challenges and pave the way for a dynamic future in gaming.

It looks like a bunch of awesome job opportunities just landed on Y Combinator's Work at a Startup (WaaS) platform (including a few from Numeral). WaaS is YC's job board for portfolio companies. And the filters are great. For example, you can filter to stage (eg Series A/Growth), location (eg remote OK), and more. Some amazing opportunities here... 👀 - PermitFlow (W22) - TurboTax for construction permitting. They raised a Series A from Kleiner Perkins and are hiring for a bunch of awesome roles, including a Sales Director and a Lead Product Manager. + you get to work with Francis Thumpasery and Samuel K. Lam! - Garage (YC W24) - Marketplace for used firefighting equipment. Martin Hunt just opened up a couple of roles: Founding Marketer + Business Development Representative. - Encord (W21) - The data development platform for AI teams. Hiring for 11 different jobs, including a Growth Manager and an AI/ML Developer Advocate. - Slope (S21) - The B2B payments platform. A fellow S21 batchmate. They are hiring for a couple of roles, including a Growth role! - Fern (YC W23) - Input OpenAPI. Output SDKs and API documentation. They've got 5 jobs up, including a few in engineering! - Pylon (W23) - The only customer support platform built for B2B. I really enjoyed using their platform, and Marty Kausas is one of the good ones. Hiring for a number of roles in engineering, sales, and marketing. - R2 (W21) - Embedded lending infrastructure. This is one of my fav YC companies. They are currently hiring for an FP&A Lead. 📈 - Recall.ai (W20) - The universal API for meeting video, audio, and metadata. Hiring for 4 different roles across engineering and sales! - Mintlify (W22) - The modern standard for documentation. Love what Han Wang is building! And they are hiring for some pretty awesome engineering roles. .... and there are 957 other YC startups hiring too. It is worth checking out!

Besides my career book-ends of Meta and Oracle, I loved the "messy middle" of 3 startups (2 exits, 1 fail). Now back at a startup, I spend some time with PM binoculars to foresee a 2y product strategy, and yet, more hours dropping to the ground and crawling across the minefield of explosive user-centric issues. And this close combat with what mars a magical user experience is so essential for engineers and PMs building 0-to-1. Whether you're building anew, or a better mousetrap, wielding extreme user empathy isn't an option. Only after you figure out your product's "Magical Moment" and how to get signups there, can you then begin to broaden the value proposition. The inspiration for the doctored dialog, below is Zoom's installing an update when I launch it. When it often fails, I'll get an "Unable to Install Update". And I'm late to the meeting I had launched Zoom to join. Update on startup vs update on exit is an example of a PM decision (in this case, probably never made). I suppose it is the fate of late-stage products that the PM/CPO won't wake up thinking of the little details of user experience. Meanwhile, while the PM pundits write solemn tomes in product roadmaps on "impact", "alignment", and "growth", they forget their users. But who won't forget YOUR users? A stealthy Google stalking Zoom, a Facebook for Friendster, a Google for Yahoo, a Salesforce beating Siebel, an Apple overtaking Nokia, and a user swiping right on Tinder instead of Match (luckily the last two are in the same company).
