Key highlights of the QS World University Rankings: Europe 2025 include: 🔹 ETH Zürich claims the top spot, climbing from second place last year. 🔹 Imperial College London now claims the second spot, replacing the University of Oxford who are now ranked third. 🔹 Of the previously ranked institutions, 258 have climbed, 301 have dropped, and 115 remain stable within their rank or band. #HigherEd #QSWUR #Europe | QS World University Rankings 🎓

Swiss universities are showing diverse outcomes in the recent global rankings. ETH Zurich stands strong as the top university in continental Europe, maintaining its 7th position in 2025. Out of the ten Swiss universities ranked, three have progressed while six have regressed. Despite the hurdles, ETH Zurich maintains its excellence. #Switzerland #UniversityRankings

Reflecting on recent accomplishments is crucial for future progress. This article, authored by our colleagues at Haaga-Helia University of Applied Sciences, provides an excellent opportunity to assess both the challenges overcome and those still ahead. The Ulysseus European University pilot phase (2020-2023) has set a new benchmark for innovation and collaboration in European higher education. This initiative aligns with the European Commission's vision, uniting 50 alliances and 430 higher education institutions from 35 countries. Ulysseus is now entering its next strategic phase (2023-2027) with new partnerships and expanded funding. From digital campuses to innovation hubs, Ulysseus is leading the way in digital education and joint degree programs. Significant achievements include the development of a digital platform and numerous successful project proposals. While challenges remain, the commitment to fostering a unified European Education Area by 2025 is stronger than ever. We are building a future where education and research in Europe are more interconnected and forward-thinking. 🔭 Progress is determined by a consistent measure of milestones and achievements on the journey to fulfilling our vision: matching academic excellence to societal relevance. Led by the Università degli Studi di Napoli Federico II, we assess the developments, results and the transformational potential and impact of Aurora universities by: 🎯 Establishing a solid governance structure and procedures from an alliance-wide perspective, that is future-proof and sustainable beyond the year 2027 🎯 Developing a Monitoring Framework System aligned to that of the European Commission's and national regulations 🎯 Building an our internal monitoring system addressing three thematic areas of joint education provision and mobility, Aurora governance and cooperation, and society and economy 🎯 Positioning the right mechanisms to promote Aurora values of sustainability, change-making and social transformation. 🇪🇺 Aurora 2030 is supported by the European Commission within the framework of its European Universities Initiative. It is the development phase of the Aurora European university alliance and includes ten work packages and 33 task teams. At the end of a long day, the conference “ A Blueprint for a European Degree” in Brussels was concluded with some insightful words by Vice Rector Peter Lievens, KU Leuven Belgium, on the future of the European Degree and joint degree programmes. Universities in Europe currently encounter many hurdles when creating fully-fledged joint degrees. Where it really matters, in the fields that actually profit from jointly organized programmes, these universities should step up and be exemplary for the rest of the world. They need legal changes at member state level to allow for a smoother track towards those programmes. The European Degree Policy Lab and the European Degree Forum promise to be the right vehicles to make that happen.
