MICROSILICA IN 3D CONCRETE PRINTING TECHNOLOGY ➡ Microsilica can be used in 3D concrete printing technology to improve the mechanical, strength and processability properties of printed concrete structures. But not only… Recently, the Zachodniopomorski Uniwersytet Technologiczny w Szczecinie printed a medium-scale demonstration model to test the performance of the printing system for mixtures containing recycled fine aggregates. For this purpose they used, among others: our concentrated gray microsilica (information about which you can find in our previous posts). In the Recycl3D ERAMIN project, they are looking for sustainable solutions to find end-uses for recycled fine aggregates and fines. The high content of binder and fine aggregate can significantly reduce the consumption of natural aggregates and reduce the amount of cement, which reduces the carbon footprint of 3D concrete by up to 10%. You can read more about this at the link: https://lnkd.in/dwJ-MQnB ➡ Microsilica acts as a reinforcement in the concrete structure, which translates into greater resistance to mechanical loads. By improving the microscopic structure of concrete, silica fume can reduce microcracks that may occur during the curing process. Its addition increases the adhesion between concrete layers in 3D printing, which leads to more uniform and stable structures. This, in turn, can increase the overall print quality and durability of the printed items. The microscopic properties of microsilica can help maintain accurate dimensions and detail in printed elements, making prints more precise. Interesting article about this technology that I really want to like, but just can't manage to see it. From the very opening of the article which states triumphantly that "3D printing has already made huge waves in the construction industry," to the statement that states without evidence that "The printer also reduces a builder’s carbon footprint by 70 percent compared to traditional technologies," it all just fails to identify the real problem(s) it is solving. I have watched 3D houses being constructed and it no way reduces the overall time from ground break to handoff. It uses more material than other methods (compare the volume of material used in this method versus the volume of material that would result from using typical masonry construction). And the proprietary nature of the process makes it difficult to match the method to some sort of building code standard. That said, it is interesting to see Amazon and Holcim as major investors. I can also see it as useful in more remote locations where things like skilled labor, formwork and other tools, and finished manufactured products may be hard to come by, but data center construction in the US? I just don't see it. Help me out in the comments! #alwaysbelearning #constructionishard https://lnkd.in/gADs99SE!

I’ve always been fascinated by the blend of science and art that advanced ceramics represent. In my years in this industry, I've seen how these materials push boundaries, driving innovation across manufacturing. It's a journey from traditional applications to cutting-edge technologies, revealing ceramics' extraordinary potential. One memorable experience was visiting a factory using advanced ceramics in high-precision machining tools. Holding a ceramic cutting tool, I realized its incredible hardness and resistance to wear and heat. These tools enable the production of precise and complex parts with minimal downtime, achieving the high tolerances required in modern manufacturing. Ceramics are also making strides in additive manufacturing. I saw how they are used in 3D printing to create complex geometries that were previously impossible to manufacture. These printed ceramic parts offer excellent thermal and chemical stability, ideal for a wide range of industrial applications. Holding a 3D-printed ceramic component, I was struck by its intricate design and robust feel. In industrial machinery, ceramics are the unsung heroes that make heavy-duty equipment more efficient and durable. From bearings and seals to wear plates, ceramics play a pivotal role. Reflecting on this, I remember the first time I learned about ceramic bearings and their ability to reduce friction and wear significantly better than traditional materials. It was an eye-opening moment that deepened my appreciation for the intricate technology in our everyday manufacturing processes. Sharing these stories highlights ceramics' technical marvels and their transformative power. As we expand ceramics' applications in manufacturing, consider how these materials can drive innovation in your field. Whether improving product durability, efficiency, or sustainability, the possibilities are endless. Discover the future with advanced ceramics.
