Enterprise Architecture | S/4HANA Transformations

As always, a good one by Gaurish Dessai. This time, he summarises Extensibility in SAP. I would recommend everyone to familiarise with SAP BTP Guidance Framework. It is a collection of excellent guides. The one relevant for the item in context is: SAP Application Extension Methodology Overview. Link in comments. 👇

Enterprise Architect at SAP. Helping SAP customers in their Business Transformation Journey through SAP RISE, S/4HANA Cloud, Business Technology Platform, Signavio, Business AI and LeanIX. 🤝

One of the key topics within the ‘Clean Core’ Concept is Side-by-Side Extensibility – this is where customizations are made in a separate platform (i.e. SAP BTP) and integrated with the target application which can be either S/4 HANA Cloud, On-prem, Cloud LoB Solutions or even SAP ECC. Instead of your custom code just being a report or enhancement or functionality within the SAP core, you can leverage extensibility concept to develop a self-contained App, or a Product which the user can access via the SAP Build Workzone portal as a single place of entry. Most importantly, the concept can be applied to SAP ECC customers already i.e. S/4 HANA is not a pre-requisite to using Side by Side Extensibility on BTP allowing ECC customers to leverage power of BTP while they are planning their S4 Journey! Customers having large number of customizations, could adopt a bi-modal approach of: 1. Developing any new custom requirements on BTP using the Business Application Studio or SAP Build 2. Have a structured program to identify differentiating customizations & move them to BTP over a period in-prep for their S/4 move. There are two pathways to side-by-side extensibility: ⛏ SAP Build (Low code, no code solution) through BTP. 👩💻 SAP Business Application Studio (Pro code) solution: which enables developers to use Java, JavaScript, and Python to build and run SAP business applications using the Cloud Application Programming (CAP) model. Software Developer Kits (SDKs) are released for different use cases (e.g. Java SDK, iOS mobile SDK, android mobile SDK) to make it easier for developers to get up and running in the development landscape as quickly as possible with the latest features. You can start extension journey using two key resources provided by SAP: ⏭ Extensibility Explorer – for sample scenarios, patterns and step by step guides on building Apps: https://lnkd.in/eueFQuVW 🚀 SAP Business Accelerator Hub: to find the library of prepackaged integrations, APIs, events, connectors, CDS views, workflow scenarios and SAP Build templates: https://api.sap.com/ #SAP #SAPCommunity #SAPBTP
