Identical twins have 100% similar DNA, how does that affect their development? The nature vs nurture debate is a long-discussed topic among psychologists and researchers. In my article, published on the Insights of Nature publication, I dive into the ‘Jim & Jim Case’ and more! https://lnkd.in/dQZ-fjB7

Check out the presenters at the ICON conference https://lnkd.in/dztk9fxx Looking forward to present at In this presentation the story will be shared of a research team that undertook a quest of revising the Gravesian archives at the Union College, Schenectady. Interesting data and insights were found – not previously shared. Graves departed from a psychological stance (1946-1986). Graves decided to conduct experiments that he hoped would reconcile the various approaches to human nature and questions about psychological maturity, as he saw elements of truth and error in all theories known at the time. Rather than construct a hypothesis about how the conflicting systems could be resolved, Graves posed several open-ended questions and looked to see what patterns would emerge from his data. While not typical at the time, these the approach would become known as Grounded Theory . Don Beck, with Graves, pivoted the theoretical development into a geo-political interpretation of contextual dynamics. insights gained from original Gravesion theory will be shared. #ICON #spiraldynamics #ClareGraves #donalddulchinos #unioncollege #integral #tomhabib

Last night marked Walnut Unlimited’s 9th annual Brainy Bar, which explored the art and science of emotion. 🎨 💡 🧠 Cristina de Balanzo, Ph.D. gave us a great introduction into the history of emotions - delving into how although emotions may be messy and multidimensional, they are integral to human understanding. Historically in Western culture, emotions have been viewed through a negative lens, but the more we research on emotions, the more we learn around how integral they are to understanding our deeper behaviours. ⚡ Dean Burnett took us through the complex landscape of emotions, exploring whether they are innate or constructed, and how they play a role in everything from senses and memory to motivation and cognition. "Emotions are the bedrock of cognition, they infuse every aspect of our thinking." 🥊 Dan Bowers and Graeme Noble then took to the ring to battle out their ideas on science vs. creativity. While there were excellent arguments for each sides, turns out you need the perfect blend of both. Watch out for the new buzzword for this year.... "sciencetivity"! #BrainyBar #behaviouralscience #research

New video from the HxA Research Symposium: Covid and the Academy: What Have We Learned? Featuring Maja Graso, Ph.D., Assistant Professor of Psychology at the University of Groningen. Maja and her colleagues have been exploring the implications of questions like: How do people perceive harms they cannot see? Whose fears should guide social norms? Which well-meaning efforts to resolve them might lead to short-term safety but compromise long-term peace? She discusses these questions in various contexts, including allegations of non-physical mistreatment at work and the social divisions surrounding Covid-19. https://ow.ly/8xi750QZyas
