Let’s implement a Generational Indexing System in #Rust. This is an advanced and useful technique commonly used in game engines and other systems that require safe, efficient, and dynamic allocation and deallocation of entities. Generational indexing provides a way to manage a collection of items with unique, non-reusable identifiers. It ensures that stale references to removed items are detected and handled safely. Key Points 1. Entity Management: Efficiently manage dynamic collections of items. 2. Generational Indices: Use indices that include a generation count to prevent stale references. 3. Safety: Ensure that removed items cannot be accessed incorrectly. Purpose • Safe Dynamic Allocation: Manage entities in a way that prevents use-after-free errors. • Efficient: Provide efficient allocation and deallocation of items.

✨ Extend LLM context window to million tokens Starting with Gemini pro 1.5 with its 1M context window that can be extended all the way to 10M to Claude 3 that seems to offer 1M for specific use cases, it seems that the million token context window will become the new norm. Extending the context window of an LLM to the million range is a combination of three things ⚙️ Fine tuning using longer context segments ⏆ Positional interpolation to adjust position information to fit within the window the LLM has seen 🧮 Novel attention mechanism that scales better LongRope for example, trained Llama2 using a 256K context window and found the best interpolation parameters inspired by Yarn and NTK using evolutionary search which allowed them to extend to an additional 8x to 2M with no additional training. Having a million token context window is not necessary for most use cases but it does open up certain new ones like reasoning across an entire codebase or internal documentation of a company.
