The EBRD has updated its E&S policy and is accepting comments. I've attended a public consultation workshop and left my feedback. EBRD is a development bank Aspiro works a lot with. I've had a chance to observe and participate in the sustainability efforts within the projects it finances. It's curious how such policies seem too difficult to the organizations in developing countries, and at the same time inefficient in the eyes of advanced sustainability community. But maybe it's a bridge between the two worlds ) Key points of improvement in the current ESP (https://lnkd.in/eC9HEnHA), in my opinion: 🏭☁ stricter GHG emission mitigation 🙋♀️🙋♂️ including people-centric guidelines into the policy, to facilitate understanding and adoption of its concepts by the Clients #sustainability #developmentbanks #EBRD #ESP #GHG #carbonregulations #sustainableleadership

https://lnkd.in/d-YCqFRP Always exciting to have a #thoughtleadership piece in the Mail & Guardian! It's based on my recent webinar presentation to The South African Institute of Chartered Accountants (SAICA), making the point that for all the whinging about the 'alphabet soup of ESG standards', there are none of legal force in SA. Corporate SA (enterprises and their funders) have the luxury of designing and implementing innovative, locally responsive, impactful #ESG strategies and investments, resonating with #SDG's, and putting some meat on the bones of our rather wobbly looking #NationalDevelopmentPlan. I fear we will wait for European and other foreign regulation of off-takers of SA products to overwhelm us with rules which we can then complain about again. Please don't! Take advice, and do impactful things! Bowmans (Law Firm) ESG Africa Conference EBnet
