Proud 🌾 Albertan & 🍁 Canadian. Wife. Dog Lover 🐶 Honoured to be the MLA for Brooks-Medicine Hat, Alberta's 19th Premier and Leader of the UCP.

Today, I had the honour of joining WestJet CEO Alexis Von Hoensbroech and our amazing Alberta team to celebrate two years of a groundbreaking partnership that’s taken aviation in Alberta to new heights. Two years ago, our government and WestJet committed to positioning Calgary as a global aviation hub. The result? ✈️ WestJet’s entire Dreamliner fleet is now based in Calgary. 🌍 More flights, more routes, and more global connections than ever. 💼 A boost to Alberta’s economy, jobs, and business opportunities. But none of this would be possible without the incredible WestJetters who keep the planes flying and the passengers smiling. Your hard work makes Alberta soar! This partnership isn’t just about connecting travelers; it’s about driving investment, creating jobs, and strengthening Alberta’s place on the global stage. Together, we’re making Alberta a leader in aviation excellence.

I won't be flying WestJet again, out of choice. I recently flew to San Francisco (on route to Manilla) and returned from LAX to Calgary. On both flights there was a delay without apology. The LAX delay was 90 minutes. On both flights the captains never had the decency to introduce themselves - maybe they were embarrassed to be working for WestJet. By comparison, I have flown Philippine Airlines on four occasions, and noted a vast difference in service and politeness. The captains are always proud to introduce themselves and the 5 other pilots assisting them. Gives a passenger confidence to fly with them.

Westjet used to be a proud, Western Canadian based airline that you could rely on for good service and timely flights, like most businesses that are acquired by Private Equity, it is now a stripped down, shadow of it's former self, very sad.

WestJet used to be the answer for the horrible service and appauling treatment of their travellers at Air Canada. Under the leadership of the current CEO they have evolved to be as bad if not worse than Air Canada ever was.

WestJet is no longer the airline it once was. Customer service has gone down in quality, significantly. Wait times to get through for addressing issues, is in hours. If you look at any of the Canadian airline complaint pages on social media, you will see that the majority of delays, changes to flights and cancellations are Westjet. If you submit a claim for compensation due to cancelled flights or significant delays they are almost always, denied. I am not surprised that our premier would be supporting Westjet and applauding them, she seems to support only services that are run ineffectually and companies that are making record profit at the cost of everyday consumers.

WestJet is an absolute dumpster fire. They and Air Canada are the two worst airlines in the world, and they are contending for the bottom spot.

Hey Priemer Smith, What about Edmonton having more direct flights globally??? I would love not having to wait 4 hours at Calgary airport because our Westjet connecting flight back to Edmonton was delayed. Having to wait 4 hours to fly for less than one hour, wait for another 45 minutes for a bags. If only I could get the cost of my flight from Calgary to Edmonton refunded, I could have rented a car and been home in 3 hours. Just a thought Premier Smith!

WestJet is not the airline it was. A recent trip to PVR and the return flight to Comox was cancelled they say for maintaince reasons. A flight to YVR was issued two days later with a 19 hr layover before flight to Comox. No accommodation or food or transportation was offered with only a letter saying to apply for reimbursement. After arrival finally at Comox with this flight being almost two hours late due to crew shortages. I applied for reimbursement to Transport Canada customer rights and also sent expenses of $1240.00 to WestJet with a response two days later that our claim had been denied. We had paid extra for direct flights , seat selection and were certainly expectingWestJet to compensate us at least our expenses.

Now if we could get them to stop robbing everyone who flys within Canada, that would be another groundbreaking achievement

Also THANKS to Albertan Aviation Pioneer "Max Ward" for fighting the "good fight" - for decades - that not only allowed Ward Air to operate as a "normal airline" but also companies like WestJet ! >>> Check out his book to see just how "corrupt" the so-called "Canadian" Federal Government has ALWAYS been >>> https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/12391451-the-max-ward-story#CommunityReviews

It amazes me how our politicians can so easily apply a positive spin to something that is very far from a positive experience for Canadians, regardless of which of "our" airlines you fly. I'm guessing she hasn't flown either in a very long time. Doesn't she realize her obvious lack of understanding just distances her more from her constituents?
