In speaking about the positive impact of the resource industry, we often rely on economic data. According to NRCAN, the B.C. mineral exploration and mining industry currently contributes 35,000 jobs, $7.3B in GDP, 28 per cent of our export value and $1B in provincial revenue. In other words, it's a huge part of our economy, but sometimes it's hard to convey what these numbers actually mean.
AME - Association for Mineral Exploration is doing some incredible work right now, to highlight the people and voices behind those numbers. During a visit to Westhaven Gold Corp. in Merritt, Keerit Jutla met a group of young geologists. Their energy and passion for the work they do really shines through here and showcases how important mineral exploration. It's also clear that mining is a career of the future and that opportunity exists outside of urban areas. As a province with an affordability problem and housing crisis it's important that young people have opportunities to get ahead. Mining and exploration offer that opportunity.
