Let me preface this by saying this in no way involves the current company I work for! 🇺🇸💼 As a veteran and military spouse, it's disheartening to see that companies claiming to support the military community often turn out to be the biggest offenders, belittling service members instead of helping them grow. It's concerning that these companies fail to recognize the valuable skills and experiences of veterans and military spouses. Let's advocate for genuine support and respect for our community within all organizations. #SupportVeterans #MilitarySpouses #LeadershipDevelopment #RespectOurTroops #EthicalEmployers

When you realize that you can't stay in the military forever . . . Then transition to a Veteran's life is your next mission. How long does that take? This is not a PCS move or something you've done before. Plan on 2-3 years of part time study and thinking if you want to succeed. Would you go into combat without a plan or knowing the terrain and enemy capabilities? Of course you wouldn't. You want to succeed. Did you become a military expert after attending basic training or the basic officer course? Of course you didn't. You put years and much study into it. Military transition is not different. This book by Algrish Williams, Sr., MPA is a good starting point to understand the terrain that is called military transition. #soldierforlife

May is Military Appreciation Month, a time to honor and recognize the contributions and sacrifices of the men and women who have served in the U.S. Armed Forces. Every day, American service members and their families make the selfless decision to help defend our freedoms and safety around the globe. Military life often involves huge sacrifices – whether it’s relocating far from family and friends or service members’ spouses giving up their own careers to keep their family unit together. There are countless ways to show your appreciation and give back to our veterans, active military personnel and their families. One of the simplest ways of showing appreciation is to say, “thank you.” You might also consider giving a military spouse a hand in their day-to-day lives. If you know a deployed military family, why not drop off a meal, offer to babysit or take their dog for a walk? And if you’re a business owner, giving back can be as easy as providing a military discount. These small gestures can go a long way in supporting service members and their families. As a veteran myself, I understand the importance of support and camaraderie within the military community and I encourage you to join me in showing appreciation in whatever way you can, both this month and always. #MilitaryAppreciationMonth #MilitaryAppreciation #Veterans #SupportOurVeterans

A survey by Syracuse’s Institute for Veterans and Military Families found that 53% of active duty, reservists, National Guard, and veterans cited "educational benefits" as a key reason for their military service. Yet, year after year we are seeing a decline in these benefits. My husband is currently pursuing a second degree using the GI Bill, but it hasn’t been without its challenges. It’s troubling how often veterans face obstacles when trying to access their VA benefits—an issue that has persisted for years. I’m interested in hearing from others who have experienced similar issues: 1. Have you faced difficulties with accessing GI Bill benefits? 2. Did you feel that the school managed and handled your GI Bill benefits effectively and provided adequate support as a veteran? 3. Do you have any tips, stories, or insights to share? Thank you in advance for sharing your experiences! #VABenefits #GIBill #VeteranSupport

15 Things Veterans Want You to Know… 1. We are not all soldiers 2. Reserves are part of the military 3. Not everyone in the military is infantry (in tanks, on patrol, etc.) 4. Military has leaders at every level in the chain of command 5. Military is always on duty 6. Take pride in appearance and conduct 7. We did all not all kill someone 8. We do not all have PTSD 9. Those of us who do have invisible wounds of war are not dangerous or violent 11. Our military service changes us 12. We differ in how much we identify with the military after we leave active duty 13. Our families serve with us 14. We would die for each other and our country 15. We all made this sacrifice for one reason: to serve something more important than ourselves.
