This is how consulting teams work! Example: 1) Senior Management at Swiggy/Infosys/HDFC/XYZ company needs strategic support w.r.t. solving a critical business problem. And they get a consulting company onboard to support them. 2) A team from McK/BCG/Bain/Kearney/Avlon Consulting/FSG/XYZ consulting company is onboard. The team consists of, 1 manager + 2-3 associates. 3) This consulting team (1 mgr + 2-3 associates) has an ecosystem to rely upon. - A partner/ associate partner who knows the industry, client, and solved similar problems in the past. - Functional/Technical experts (Analytics teams, Implementation teams, AI teams, etc.) - Industry experts (Sustainability experts, Digital experts, Telecom experts, etc.) - Product experts (for example, Internal products such as Quantum Black for McKinsey will be leveraged if there is a big-data component in the project) - Research experts (In my experience - More often than not, at least one expert is staffed full-time on the team along with the manager and associates). 4) Every member in the ecosystem is collaborative and looking forward to adding value to the client. - The entire ecosystem will work hard to solve the client's business problem. - The Manager & associates might not be industry experts. But, the overall ecosystem has that expertise. - If you need to get help from somebody sitting in Japan, you get it! As simple as that. End of the day, 1) Consulting teams are not about expertise. They are about solving problems. 2) EVERYBODY is paid handsomely because problems are being resolved! 3) You should consider working in this industry at least for a few years because - You learn to solve business problems! And that is a powerful skill to have! **** If you are looking to learn about contemporary business issues & learn from experts through masterclasses, join our continuous learning community.
