I was proud to stand alongside Sec. of Energy Jennifer Granholm, Gov. Glenn Youngkin and Senators Mark Warner and Tim Kaine, Dominion Energy, Energy Northwest and X-energy today at Amazon HQ2 as Matt Garman announced innovative agreements to pioneer the development of a new nuclear energy project in Washington State and explore another in Virginia. These agreements will support the construction and exploration of Small Modular Reactors (SMRs), an exciting moment of progress for the carbon-free energy transition. And our Climate Pledge Fund investment in X-energy will help develop the fuel and technology to advance more than five gigawatts of new nuclear over the next 15 years. As Amazon Web Services (AWS) continues to expand our infrastructure to meet customer demand, we’ll continue finding new ways to bring carbon-free energy to the grid to help power our operations and advance our Climate Pledge commitment to achieving net-zero carbon emissions by 2040. This is a Historical moment in our lifetime. Pivoting to Nuclear is bold but obviously right step which will not only will align to meet energy demands but will see geopolitical shift in coming decades .

#NuclearPower The ADVANCE Act was signed into law this summer; this law will help us build new nuclear reactors to deliver clean, reliable power sources for our ever-increasing energy demand with the growth of data centers, electric vehicles, and manufacturing. The ADVANCE Act directs the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) to reduce certain licensing application fees and increase staffing for NRC reviews in order to expedite the process. The US Department of Energy has released a guide to help communities explore converting retired or retiring coal power plants to nuclear power. The guide highlights potential cost savings and job creation benefits of these "coal-to-nuclear" transitions, while outlining key considerations for utilities to evaluate feasibility and scope.
