Shout out to everyone for a successful launch of 2MT+! There has been such a great response, and Casey truly appreciate everyone's support with getting this going! After each Two Minute Topics series, Casey will be offering group consulting sessions to take a deeper dive into the most recent topic discussed. Since we're in the middle of diving into the functional areas of supply chain, we're going to revisit a few previous topics to get us caught up! The first event is on 02/27 or 02/28 (offering two sessions) and will be on Processes and Process Improvement! A few things to note: 👑 This is NOT a networking event. Some interesting presentations at the IBF Conference in Chicago last week. Presenters talked about 25% Inventory Reduction, 15% Reduction in Stock Outs, and 16% Increase in Customer Satisfaction, which is, of course, possible in some industries, but it does depend on your starting point. If you are using moving averages in your ERP thinking, then of course, this level of improvement may be possible. However, if you are already leveraging your data using advanced algorithms, this level of improvement is unlikely. The basic messages from last week's presentations were: Gather your demand data intelligently and leverage your access to that data to enable you to forecast appropriately. Understand the sources of uncertainty in your supply chain demand, supply, lead time, quality, and position your postponement strategies and safety stocks to flex for change. Monitor and measure against your plan. Enhance your visibility and accelerate your response. Increase supply chain collaboration between SC actors. Build structural flexibility. Of course, there is a lot to do. I recommend that you do the following based on the presentations. 1. Start simple and accelerate and improve. 2. Monitor, measure and manage the key KPIs. 3. Look for continuous improvement. 4. Improve granularity and speed of data to enhance decisions. 5. Integrate when and where you can. 6. Automate the simple things. 7. Looking for ongoing ROI from these processes to maintain your competitive advantage. If you want to know how, please feel free to contact me. #TPM24 is a wrap! Somewhat overwhelming but an exhilarating and fulfilling experience interacting with all of you who participated in the 24th TPM this week. A few parting comments! While TPM has grown over the years and especially coming out of COVID, what struck me most about this year was how the vibe or collective feeling at this event has remained intact. It roars back to life every year, just like it has done every year going back to the early days of TPM. Combustion occurs when the right people meet at the right time of year, for the right reasons and in the right place! How did it go? I am often asked this and my response is that my satisfaction is entirely “derivative”, meaning if others are satisfied I’m satisfied. Most important to me is that people’s precious time not be wasted. Given how valuable our time is, the bar is set high. I appreciate and am profoundly moved by all of the incredibly positive and enthusiastic comments conveyed in person and on Linked In. But please know we will draw no immediate conclusions. A massive debrief process will soon commence where we will pour over the most minute details of the event this year. We will break TPM down into each its component parts, forming over 30 subcommittees that will gather every available piece of evidence and data and determine by early June what worked, what didn’t and what the plan will be for 2025, the 25th anniversary event. However a few observations can be made now. What is new for our core Journal of Commerce team who has built TPM over the years is that within S&P Global we are part of a broader organization and strategy centered around data-driven supply chain insights, led by our business line leader Jenny Paurys, who I hope many of you had the chance to meet this week. This was not the case for most of the years of TPM when we were sold off from private equity to strategic, back into private equity, back into strategic, with no larger team or strategy beyond our own core business of journalism and events serving this market. I could clearly see this year how this profound shift enhanced TPM and will further do so in the years in 2025 and beyond. As I migrate back to Singapore, a huge thanks to all of my colleagues for your incredibly hard work and dedication over these past many months. A huge thanks to everyone who participated with us this year, attendees, partners, carriers, BCOs, forwarders, railroads, ports, MTOs, lawyers, tech innovators and many others. It is my great honor to interact with you in this incredible field of international trade, logistics and supply chains. Travel safe back home or your next destination and I look forward to seeing you next year and hopefully sooner!

Have you ever noticed how the Pareto Principle, or 80/20 rule, seems to show up everywhere? At the gym recently, I noticed the general manager removing plates from a piece of equipment. I asked if he was training hard, but he said he was removing the plates for someone who left the weights there after their final set. I told him that the Pareto Principle likely applies—20% of members probably leave 80% of the weights on the equipment for others to deal with (a pet peeve of mine). He agreed. It made me think about how the Pareto Principle applies to conferences with regard to networking. At events like the CSCMP’s EDGE Supply Chain Conference & Exhibition™, 20% of attendees do 80% of the networking. My goal? Be part of that 20%. Let’s connect at Booth #311, or connect with me on the Edge app if you’re attending the CSCMP Edge conference. #EDGE2024 #CSCMP #Nashville #SupplyChain #WorkforceSolutions #Logistics
