💡💡 Welcome back to The Event Edge, a series exploring the #eventindustry hottest topics for event producers. This week's topic is the #TechCrew 💡💡 If you know me, which I hope most of you reading this do, you know that I live and breathe for the #technical side of event production. It is what gets me most excited about the industry and where I feel most comfortable. If terms like: Technical Director, A1 and A2, GFX Switcher, and Camera Operator mean as much to you as they do to me, then this week's topic will be right up your alley. If the event industry could be compared to the human body, the tech crew would be the heartbeat. From floorplans to 3D renders, from pull sheets to trucks loaded with gear and sent off the venues, the crew and everyone behind the scenes is the backbone of the shows we know and love. On the front end, we see the content on screen, the amazing lighting designs in the room and the crystal clear audio setups -- but without the crew's work, none of it would be possible. The crew arrives well before anyone else and most cases stays way past when guests and producers leave, ensuring the show is unloaded, setup, operated, torn-down and packed up at the highest quality of standards. Most often, the crew is never thanked on stage, in show guides or in award speeches. I can tell you firsthand that this needs to change. We need to show much more love to the crews who deliver our shows at the highest level. The crew is the engine that keeps the industry chugging along, and for that we owe them a huge round of applause. The Fear of Technical Failures During Performances—and How to Keep the Show Going When it comes to live entertainment, nothing strikes fear into an event professional’s heart more than a technical failure during a performance. A mic cutting out mid-song, a spotlight malfunction, or an instrument not connecting properly can completely disrupt the energy and experience. Imagine the performer hitting their peak note, and the sound drops out. The audience feels it, the performer feels it—it’s an event planner’s worst nightmare. No matter how well-rehearsed the talent is, technology can steal the show if not handled properly. The Solution: Success starts with thorough tech rehearsals. Make sure all equipment—microphones, speakers, instruments, and lights—are tested multiple times before the event. Collaborating with a trusted AV team is essential. Having backup microphones, additional sound mixers, and extra lighting technicians on standby can save the day if things go wrong. Our hybrid events (virtual + venue at the same time) recently leveled up in quality. The secret was that there was no secret at all. We haven't added a single feature or technology. We just learned to use the system we built in a better way. What is a "better" hybrid event? - It's an event where everyone, whether in the venue or online, can see and hear other participants in high quality and can also be seen and heard by others. It does require preparation, sometimes also improvisation and adaptation (to the venue structure, to the network quality, to acoustics, to lighting), but basically, a great hybrid event can be done anywhere with any equipment, by using Movies Everywhere hybrid module. In the picture below, an audience of 120 people are gathering together after a screening of a film and are seeing the 250 people which are online and watched the film simultaneously. Everyone can see and hear each other. Front right, holding the microphone, is the director of the film. On the left, smiling, is the event host. They are relating to a comment made by one of the online viewers

Another brand opens a venue. I did not see this coming. Netflix has just announced ‘Netflix House’, a dedicated venue to watch your favorite shows. And experience popular sets replicas. The trend is clear. After owned events and pop-up venues, companies look into owned spaces where fans can experience the brand. The announcement comes a few days after Zoom launched a showroom where enterprise customers could experience the brand. From booths to venues Some companies spend multimillion-dollar budgets in booths at shows like Cannes Lions and SXSW for their presences. If you consider the SK experience at CES - with a mini sphere and a whole theme park, it makes sense to invest in permanent installations. What’s your feeling on the rise of brand-owned venues? The future of marketing is in building spaces. These can be virtual spaces. These can be temporary physical spaces (in-person events). These can be permanent physical spaces. The one thing they all have in common is this: It's no longer about flashing an ad in front of people and hoping it catches their attention. It's about bringing customers and potential customers together in a space where they can connect with each other.
