“Our calling is one that continues to be very, very clear: How do we make sure nobody's left behind?” shares Anthony Tan, Co-founder & CEO of 500-backed superapp Grab. “Providing 13 million gig jobs is probably the largest job impact and poverty alleviation on a grand scale in 750 cities. That's what I would say makes us all really happy,” he added. Currently, Grab is focused on AI and they are set to launch a new voice assistant designed with visually impaired users in mind. It may seem simple and straightforward, but Anthony’s journey has been far from easy. To founders, he advises, “If you're ever to start again, or you're starting for the first time, be very clear, it has to be your life calling. I really mean it. If you don't, don't do it, because so many fail. It's that hard.” Watch the full interview on CNBC: https://cnb.cx/3Yw7Kyt #500Global #500SoutheastAsia #500Strong #startups #technology #innovation #venturecapital #asia #southeastasia #malaysia #superapp #gigeconomy Photo credit: CNBC

Welcome back to #TalentTuesdays! In our ongoing series about talent in the Indian startup ecosystem, we often focus on tech roles. But today, let's shine a light on the unsung heroes: the non-tech talent that keeps startups running smoothly and fuels their growth. 🚀 While tech skills are undoubtedly essential, startups need a diverse range of talents to thrive. Think about the marketing mavens who build brand awareness, the sales wizards who close deals, the operations gurus who ensure smooth processes, and the customer service champs who build lasting relationships. These roles might not be as glamorous as coding the next big app, but they are absolutely crucial to a startup's success. Without them, even the most innovative products and services wouldn't reach their full potential. Finding and retaining top non-tech talent can be a challenge for startups, especially those with limited budgets and brand recognition. But it's a challenge worth tackling, as a well-rounded team can significantly impact a startup's trajectory. Remember, building a successful startup is a team sport. By recognizing and valuing the diverse talents of your entire team – not just the tech stars – you create a collaborative and supportive environment that fuels innovation and drives growth. Who are the unsung heroes in your startup? What roles do you find most challenging to fill? Share your experiences and insights in the comments below! #TalentTuesdays #IndianStartups #NonTechTalent #StartupTeam #Hiring #Culture #Diversity #Inclusion #TalentAcquisition

Humble brag for my Dreamore team! Davina Kaonohi, Lydia Thompson, and I Have been working diligently And the photo you see here IS from one of our events But it looks like a stock photo to me Which is pretty cool. We love technology! After 30 years recruiting for startups, we kinda helped build it ;) All the energy around AI right now Is just as exciting/disturbing/it'll be ok As the original dot-coms, mobile, e-commerce, SaaS, etc. Over-simplified perspective.... but true. We'll always be trying to figure out How to relate to these tools, Not get overwhelmed, Pay our bills, Find meaning in it all, Not be scared, And connect with each other as human beings. I have faith in the journey, and glad you're here on it with us! Lots of positive energy with the FED lowering interest rates. We're not out of the woods yet, But it IS getting better. Lining up with some new clients making strategic hires, So let us know how we can help you too. #inspiration #technology #recruiting #hiring #startups #womeninbusiness #womeninleadership #growthmindset

🕹Getting people hired into startups is akin to playing Mario. It's like rescuing the princess from a big corporation so she can join you in building a startup. Typically, in complex engineering startups, the task is like this: - We need someone with 20 years of experience at Google-Netflix-Facebook, otherwise, our project will close down or won't reach the next round🧞♂️ That's why it's important for a recruiter to understand the substantive component of each position in their pipeline. This is one of the main indicators of recruitment quality. - 23% of startups shut down because they struggle to attract top talent, ranking as the third most common cause of startup failures following insufficient funding and lack of market demand 📊 #TechTalent #HiringStrategies #RecruitmentInsights #StartupSuccess #StartupFailure

Everyone’s talking about building startups right now. 💻📈 But is it really the right time for you to dive in? 🤔 I believe this is actually the perfect moment to build a service company or become an enabler/consultant for those businesses if you have the right skill-set and niche experience. To succeed at a massive scale, a lot of factors need to align: market potential, industry experience, and solid capital. Even if you’ve built a fantastic product, competition is fierce—especially with AI booming. One big player can push you out if you’re not ready for the grit and resilience it demands. 🤯 Last year, I worked on a side project focused on mental and emotional wellness. I paused it and eventually sold the product to a growing startup I met in Bangalore and I still help them with anything they need. This experience was unique and invaluable on it's own. 🤝 From conversations with women incubators and potential collaborators, I closely observed that success depends on balancing idea, experience, capital, network, community, and timing. ✅ Been working closely with founders, I’ve seen firsthand the sacrifices, resilience, and challenges of building from scratch. If you haven’t worked under a great founder, you might not be fully aware of what it takes personally. So, don’t rush into the startup dream without understanding the reality. But if anyway, You've made up your mind about product development, consider going super niche. Target closed markets with complex problems and make a global impact by solving unique issues that's far away from masses. 🏢📈 But I want to hear from you guys, What do you think of the current startup landscape? #startup #business #jobs #interviews #product #company #buildinpublic

Hi everyone! Have you ever wondered why so many people rave about working at startups, especially at the beginning of their careers? Here’s why I think it’s a game-changer: 1. Rapid Growth Opportunities: Startups move fast, and so will your career! You get to wear multiple hats, learn a variety of skills, and see the impact of your work directly. This kind of growth is unparalleled in larger, more established companies. 2. Innovative Environment: Startups are the breeding grounds for new ideas and creativity. Working in such an environment pushes you to think outside the box and adapt quickly to new challenges. 3. Close-Knit Teams: You’ll work closely with the founders and a small team, which means you get to learn directly from experienced leaders. This also fosters a strong sense of camaraderie and teamwork. 4. Flexibility and Responsibility: Startups often offer more flexible working conditions and a chance to take on significant responsibilities early on. This can be incredibly rewarding and sets a strong foundation for your future career. 5. Networking and Connections: The startup ecosystem is a close-knit community. The connections you make can open doors to new opportunities and collaborations in the future. In my experience, working at a startup early in your career is like an accelerated learning program. It’s intense, challenging, and incredibly rewarding. What are your thoughts? Have you worked at a startup? Share your experiences and let's discuss! #CareerGrowth #Startups #ProfessionalDevelopment #HR #CareerAdvice --- Feel free to tweak this to better suit your voice and specific experiences!

𝗖𝗼𝘂𝗹𝗱 𝟭 𝘁𝗶𝗻𝘆 𝗰𝗵𝗼𝗶𝗰𝗲 𝘁𝗼𝗱𝗮𝘆 𝘀𝗽𝗮𝗿𝗸 𝗮 𝗿𝗲𝘃𝗼𝗹𝘂𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝘁𝗼𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗿𝗼𝘄? 🤔🦋 The 'Startup Butterfly Effect' is real. From choosing co-founders to making that first hire, every small action can snowball into massive consequences. Just look at Flipkart - two engineers quitting their jobs led to India's biggest e-commerce success and sparked hundreds of new startups. Here’s how the Butterfly Effect plays out in the startup realm: ⇨𝗖𝗵𝗼𝗼𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗖𝗼-𝗙𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘀: Like picking a dance partner, the right co-founder can lift your startup, while the wrong one can lead to turbulence. ⇨𝗗𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗴𝗻 𝗖𝗵𝗼𝗶𝗰𝗲𝘀: Your initial design can make waves—an intuitive interface can create buzz, while a poor one can frustrate users. ⇨𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗙𝗶𝗿𝘀𝘁 𝗛𝗶𝗿𝗲: Your first employee shapes your culture. The right hire fosters innovation, the wrong one can spark conflict. ⇨𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗟𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗛𝗶𝗿𝗲: Your later hires are as important as the first , if you get the wrong one, they will collapse the whole system. It’s very important to find the right person who will fit the culture and vision . ⇨𝗘𝗮𝗿𝗹𝘆 𝗜𝗻𝘃𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘀: Choosing investors who bring expertise and connections can unlock doors; the wrong ones may lead to distractions. ⇨𝗟𝗮𝘂𝗻𝗰𝗵 𝗦𝘁𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗴𝘆: A memorable launch sets the stage for success, while a lackluster one might leave your product in the shadows. ⇨𝗣𝗶𝘃𝗼𝘁𝘀: Timely pivots can lead to breakthroughs; delays can mean missed opportunities. What seemingly insignificant decision that you might make today, could change everything? 🚀 Arunkumar Visweswaran
