𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐢𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐧𝐮𝐦𝐛𝐞𝐫 𝐨𝐧𝐞 “𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠” 𝐦𝐚𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐦𝐨𝐬𝐭 𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐞 𝐢𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐚𝐜𝐜𝐞𝐬𝐬 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐫𝐨𝐥 𝐢𝐧𝐝𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐲? 𝐈𝐭 𝐢𝐬𝐧’𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐜𝐥𝐨𝐮𝐝, 𝐢𝐭'𝐬 𝐧𝐨𝐭 𝐀𝐩𝐩𝐥𝐞 𝐖𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐭, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐢𝐭'𝐬 𝐧𝐨𝐭 𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐧 𝐀𝐈. Our industry's “reporting,” panel discussions, strategies, and zeitgeist are based on old truths. While still relevant, these truths are trivial in today's grand scheme and will be even more so tomorrow. Frankly, they are defensive, not offensive. What is the most significant change-maker? One word: Money 💴 💵 💶 💷 —and lots of it. The amount of capital being activated by significant external PE firms is staggering. These newcomers have no legacy in our industry but clearly expect returns. It is happening now and even more so in Q1 of next year. And the impacts will be felt for the next 30 years. This is also why you see large incumbents making plays now. When large incumbents activate their capital, their expectations also change, resulting in...well...change. Go ahead, ask me how I know. This influx of money will significantly impact our industry's old truths. This influx of money doesn’t care about the past 30 years. New realities are emerging, claiming a larger share of the pie, voice, and, ultimately, the direction of our industry. There's never been a better time in the access control industry. Don't waste it with 5–8% incremental strategies. You have permission to be bolder. Well... at least the market has permitted you. Now, if only the "leaders" of these companies would do the same. Who will step up and challenge the old truths by invoking new ones?
