Can you recall a team that had a trust problem? They experienced limited collaboration, relied heavily on formal structures, and any attempts at innovation were stifled. Relationships lacked depth and people were hesitant to share or rely on each other. They'd likely have achieved a Trust Score of less than 2.3 out of 5 (literally). Now, imagine the most trust-filled team possible. In this team, trust is unconditional. Collaboration, creativity, and efficiency are running at optimal levels. The people are irresistibly compelled by a shared vision of what matters most to them. Their interpersonal relationships are characterised by connection and understanding. They would likely achieve a Trust Score of greater than 4 out of 5. How does one quantify trust within a team? Trust is the foundation on which effective collaboration is built. Confidence in the capabilities, intentions, and trustworthiness of team members is critical. For example, when a team is confident that each member is committed to the team's success, they are more likely to freely share their ideas, knowing that their contributions will be valued #motivation

Encouraging open dialogue is crucial when uniting a divided team, particularly when technology stacks are at the center of contention. By facilitating a meeting where each team member has the opportunity to express their preferences and reasoning for different tech stacks, we create an environment where everyone feels heard and respected. This approach fosters a culture of openness and collaboration, allowing individuals to voice their perspectives without fear of judgment. When team members can openly share their thoughts, it not only gives them a sense of ownership and involvement in the decision-making process but also builds trust among colleagues. This dialogue can uncover valuable insights that may not have been considered initially, leading to a more informed and balanced decision.

Four pillars of building trust Consistency – Show up reliably and follow through on promises. Trust grows when actions align with words over time. Communication – Honest, open dialogue builds transparency. When people feel heard, trust naturally deepens. Collaboration – Working together fosters mutual respect. Success is shared, and struggles are solved as a team. Connection – Build relationships through genuine care. Trust thrives when people feel valued and understood. Trust isn't built overnight, but through ongoing effort and intention.

Join us for a interesting discussion about the common ways that shame can manifest within teams; blame, judgement, gossip, back-channeling, criticism, comparison, perfectionism, power over and invisible army to name a few. Shame can lead to a reluctance to speak up or contribute ideas, hindering open communication and collaboration. Individuals may compare themselves unfavorably to others, leading to feelings of inadequacy or imposter syndrome within the team dynamic. Bring your team members to raise awareness on how to foster a healthy and courageous culture of empathy, vulnerability, and psychological safety, where team members feel accepted and supported regardless of their perceived shortcomings. https://lnkd.in/gX8e5AVP

The second dysfunction is fear of conflict. Teams afflicted by this dysfunction tend to avoid healthy, constructive debate due to a fear of causing tension or damaging relationships. However, without open and honest conflict, teams cannot fully explore different perspectives, make well-informed decisions, or address underlying issues, ultimately hindering their effectiveness and growth. Embracing conflict as a means to reach better outcomes is crucial for fostering trust and cohesion within the team. Does your team fear conflict? Reach out to us! We would love to see how we can help.
