Danone’s procurement team once again demonstrates their commitment to sustainability and supporting local livelihoods. The driven squad already achieved a goal of sourcing 85% of all their ingredients, including milk and packaging from South Africa. Now in collaboration with flavour suppliers previously imported ingredients are produced locally too. In the past 70% of flavours were imported, this has been reduced to 20%. This is good for the economy, as it offers the opportunity to create employment that benefits families. Sourcing closer to home also reduces transport distances which helps reduce CO2 emissions, a target that is a clear focus for the business. The business benefits of enhanced flexibility and shorter lead times in improving supply chain agility are kudos to great leadership to have an impact on people and communities.
