The secret to recruiting great engineers is a simple hiring process. On the other hand, are you going to take a job without a full 360 of the opportunity? What I see: the more senior an engineer is, the more an efficient process will resonate. (life is complex enough) And why it's becoming unthinkable to ask someone with more than 5 years in the industry to do a case study. But no one seems to mind making new grads jump through hoops to land an entry level position. Is there a middle ground? It's hard to make a career move off a one and done process, but you also can't drag things out.

Hiring top-tier engineering talent can be hard. It’s even harder when you don't know what you're looking for. But, If you’re trying to build a world-class team, you need to be looking for world-class players. Here's what to look for: 1. Problem-solving skills 2. Curiosity 3. Ability to learn 4. Communication skills 5. Passion And if you are a startup, you need to be looking for something extra: 6. Flexibility 7. Willingness to work outside their comfort zone 8. Self-directed learning Remember, you might need to make compromises. But, don't compromise too much. Hire the best, or else someone else will.

Data indicates hiring for high-paying jobs in engineering may have tanked. New data from LinkedIn highlights just how bad it is. IT hiring is down 27%. Quality assurance roles have dropped 32%. Product management is down 23% and engineering – once considered recession-proof – has fallen 26%.
