Distributed Resource Scheduler (DRS) concepts
- [Rick] In this video, we'll learn about basic concepts of Distributed Resource Scheduler, or DRS, and how it can be used to load balance across a cluster of ESXi hosts. So in this slide, we see a group of ESXi hosts, and at the moment, these are standalone ESXi hosts. So each host is independent of one another. Now, in this scenario, we could vMotion virtual machines across these hosts, but there's a lot of features that are unavailable until we create a host cluster, features like high availability, fault tolerance, and DRS. So the first step is to create a cluster of hosts, and it's just simply a logical grouping of ESXi hosts that are going to be related. And so once we create a cluster, there are features that we can enable on that cluster. So, for example, let's say that you want virtual machines to automatically restart on another host if the host that they're running on fails. Well, that's high availability, and that's a feature that we can enable when we create a host…
