- When approaching sponsors, most event planners make one huge mistake. They offer predefined packages that are the same for every sponsor and ask prospects to choose one of these packages. Unfortunately, this approach doesn't work well, because every sponsor is different and has different business needs, and predefined packages rarely reflect all of those needs. Instead, ask the sponsor, "What do you want to achieve through this sponsorship?" Typically you'll hear one or a mix of three things. "We want new leads or new potential customers." And here you'll have to let them know what the opportunities are for your sponsor to present their offering and pitch it to your audience. Or you'll hear, "We want brand awareness." In this case, look at the options to showcase their brand in as many places as possible. Or third, "We want to increase loyalty." This is more rare, and it's a combination of the above two reasons.…
