Managing challengers and interrupters
- Has this ever happened to you? You're conducting a session and some type of interruption or distraction happens. Someone's cell phone rings. Or worse, there's one person who tries to deliberately undermine your session or distract from your message. Whatever the case, skilled trainers learn how to handle interruptions on the fly when they occur. Here's some advice on how to handle interruptions during the session. First, know what might throw you off and prepare. While participants don't expect you to know the content fully, it's your responsibility to anticipate areas that may challenge you. Anticipate the five or six most difficult questions you may face, and rehearse how you'll deal with them. You may not always have an answer, but you'll be able to respond appropriately.
