- Leonardo da Vinci said, "Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication." Simplicity has its advantages, across all aspects of life. Analytical thinking is no exception. Throughout an entire decision-making or problem-solving process, opt to keep it simple. This is easier said than done though. We fall prey to a logical fallacy called complexity bias. A natural tendency to believe that complex explanations or solutions are better than simple ones. Given two competing hypotheses, we'll select the most complex one. This is nothing new. Even Confucius agreed when he said, "Life is really simple, but we insist "on making it complicated." Why do we do this? We try to add complexity to everything we encounter because our subconscious leads us to believe that the solution must involve more knowledge or effort. It may seem counterintuitive, but our brains are wired for novelty and complexity. Overlooking the benefits of simplicity. You'll need to make a conscious effort to combat this tendency…
