The role of a people analyst

- As we wrap up this course, let's talk about the larger role of the people analyst. There's something called the Last Mile Problem in analytics. This is when stakeholders are not taking action on the data analytics provided. I can't tell you how frustrating it is to spend hours, or even months, on a project, and see no action taken on the insights. The executives will say, "That's interesting," and move on. Getting over the Last Mile Problem of analytics requires two skills: influencing without authority, and the ability to simplify complex or technical concepts. These two skills set successful people analysts apart. Often, people think I spend most of my time on technical data analysis. In fact, I spend much more time talking with my stakeholders to ensure they're aligned with our approach to solving problems.
