- [Voiceover] The first type of GRE word problem I'm gonna walk you through is averages. So here, we have a problem, looks like the average weight of a pumpkin is 9.8 pounds and there are 579 pumpkins in the patch. Then a new pumpkin shows up and now that average weight jumps to 9.9 pounds. So any time we have an average question, we're gonna set up the same kind of equation, gonna look kinda like this. A fraction that's gonna equal our average. So on the top of the fraction, it's gonna be all the values added up. In the denominator of the fraction, it's just gonna be how many values there are. And that will equal our average. So let's see if we can fill in this equation for the problem in front of us. Well we know that the final average for the pumpkins is 9.9, so I'm gonna fill that in. And I know in the final scenario, we went from 579 pumpkins and we added a pumpkin, so there must be 580 pumpkins. So right away at this point, a good idea is to simplify the fraction and actually…
