- The hiring manager is often the key to the hiring decision. After all, the hiring manager owns the roadmap, the resourcing, and the budget. That said, as you've probably already guessed the hiring manager's decision is heavily influenced by feedback from the other panelists. The manager may decide to override their feedback and make a hiring decision. Still the manager will need you to work with these panelists, or others like them, on the job so that input will be key. In my experience the hiring manager has the following key responsibilities. Ensuring that the key stakeholders are aligned on the roadmap and the need for the role. Creating a panel that can represent what the role would look like in practice. Ensuring that everybody on the panel knows what soft and hard skills to assess.
