Unpivoting a crosstab

- [Instructor] Creating a crosstab or text table from a data list is an action that Tableau refers to as a pivot. If you want to unpivot your data, that is transform your data from a text table or crosstab to a data list, then you can do so fairly quickly. I'll demonstrate that process using the unpivot workbook. That's a Tableau file you can find find in the chapter eight folder of the exercise files collection. This workbook contains a single sheet and on it I have a text table where I have categories along the top in the columns area. You can see here I have furnishings, housekeeping, and so on. And I have my cities for my hotels in the rows area. And you can see these here, Arlington, Atlanta, and so on, in the rows in the first column. If I want to transform this data into a list broken down, say by city and then by category, then all I need to do is drag the product category pill from the column shelf to the rows shelf to the right of property city.
