From the course: Sound Design for Motion Graphics

What can sound design do for me?

- In this course we'll be working through a sound design for motion graphics project. We're using Audition Creative Cloud. Not only is Audition incredibly intuitive and powerful for motion graphics type sound design it also works seamlessly with other Adobe video products, like PremierePro and AfterEffects. Giving you a full round trip production path to work from, as we'll see. So why do we need sound design for graphics? Well, instead of telling you how and why sound effects punctuate and enhance the graphic effects, I'll just show you. Here is our project with only music and voiceover. No sound design. (electronic music) When pedalling, all of your leg muscles work during a revolution. But there are two phases where muscle groups tend to dominate the movement. Downstroke is dominated by the gluteus maximus from 0 to 90 degrees. But this dominance transitions to the hamstrings and calf muscles from about 60 degrees, and into the upstroke phase beyond 180 degrees. As the foot passes 270 degrees, the muscles on the front of the leg work to pull the pedal over the top as the cycle begins again. It sounds okay, and it gets the point across. But now let's listen with some carefully sound designed sound effects that punctuate our graphic elements. (electronic music) When pedalling, all of your leg muscles work during a revolution. The whole piece moves along at a brisker pace and most importantly the graphics now seem to have more movement and power through the related sound design. So stay tuned and we'll get into how to make these effects to add this kind of sound design to your own graphics projects.
